So it won't be SA 'shifting the deadwood' then? Every manager before Sam would have done exactly what you are stating... Saying which players they want to go and which they want to stay. Whether that happens or not is solely down to the people above. It's out of Sam's hands.
My logic was that I can't see you displacing any of this season's top 10 clubs. Teams (including ones managed by Allardyce) have a tendency to let up after they're safe with nowt to strive for. Your squad is not big enough imo, but we'll see.
I can't argue with that and I'm expecting/hoping that happens. If we can get to them sort of seasons, then the next level after that is to not go straight on the beach and begin to drop into the top 10. I can accept that over the next few seasons.
What I'm simply saying mate, is that SA decides on the personnel he wants and those he doesn't want. Then I would expect, He will, at some point, have dialogue with those leaving the club as a mark of respect, explaining that they are not in his future plans and to thank them for their services etc Bain's role is the legal stuff and other protocol, to move them on etc, etc....isn't it ?
To be fair, mate. It's not that simple. You said 'will SA get rid of the deadwood'. The answer is No, that is Martin Bain's job. You should have said 'will SA decide which players he wants to leave', yes, of course he will. Just like every manager before him decided that. It's always the persons above job that will 'get rid of the deadwood', though. My last comment as it's splitting hairs on what is a good thread
I think some on here are more deluded than those from the dark side. How can we ever compete with them up the road under Rafa? We only have the one season to get it right as Noocastle will be in the premiership next year and taking it by storm
I love your optimism mate..I never try to build my hopes up regarding Sunderland, but I must admit to feeling more confident than usual regarding next season..
Yeah mate !....I'm aware that other teams will strengthen etc, but I just have an inner feeling that this time things will be different. I can't quite put my finger on exactly what is making me this confident, but everything seems to point to more positivity, even before the transfers begin.. I'm going to put money on that we finish in the top half as my gut feeling tells me that the new faces that SA brings in will surprise a few people, enabling us to have the potential to be finishing around between 13th and 10th - ish. We'll see !
I'm just gutted we didn't get relegated. It seems that gives the best 'feel good factor', I've ever witnessed.
