On Talk$hite this afternoon, Adrian Durham and Darren Gough were debating why Arsenal are now so $hite, with Durham making the argument as to why Whinger should get the sack. I must say, that I thought many of Durham's arguments were very well made. I've always said that that Adrian Durham is a great bloke
That's a good observation He's never properly replaced Vieira in that position. We had Flamini for one good season at DM, but that was more by accident than design. When he left, we also sold Gilberto for £1m to Panathinaikos (topically) and since then Wenger has failed to buy a DM and instead relied more on players who he believes play a number of roles and aren't 'limited' to being played in one position. It's exactly at DM where we've come unstuck though. Last season we had Song and we sold him too . . and now we're playing a creative attacking midfielder there The player who would fufil the role is Diaby, but his injuries have hampered us there too. The other potential is Frimpong, on loan at Charlton now, again not what we need when we need it. The system Wenger plays relies on a DM, we play a attacking MF and forward line and our fullbacks attack too. Not only do we need a player to shield the back four and press the opposition, tackle players and win the ball back when we don't have the ball, we also need a player to link the defence with MF and pass the ball into the attacking areas. It's an obvious area that needs addressing for us
CR0_Spurs And I know my rep is currently -1502, so if it takes another nosedive I'll know someone on here is Holte Legends!
On 606, before my time there, there was an infamous poster referred to as "eyes". Anyone know what that was about?
That's a can of worms SD and we don't know if he is watching or even on here Multiple ID's and an infamous posting on the NUFC board re Bobby Robson, this subject is best left I think
I've said all season the goon's are overated, and finally we are seeing that,no way would they had won that game against us if we had 11 players on the pitch,we should have finished above them last season, this season we will.
Piskie, wumming aside, how do you think Arsenal will turn it around? (I would have asked if you think they will, but you already said you did.) Last season it was RVP having a great year and Wenger having what might have been his best managing effort. I think you need to buy a 20 goal/season striker. Your back four are decent. I rate Cazorla and Wilshire highly, though I've never been an Arteta fan. But I just don't think a front 3 of the four of Gervinho, Giroud, Podolski and Walcott is good enough.
I think we need to buy a DM or play Vermaelen or Koscielny as a DM (if we don't buy one) Our problem is that we're not pressing the MF and teams are playing through us, putting the back four under pressure. When we do have the ball, there's no linking player with MF and attack, so our DF plays the ball out from the back, our players are bunched up in the final 3rd (with 10 oppo players behind the ball) we pass it sideways and backwards looking for some movement ahead and then when we lose the ball we're on the back foot again, because we've got no DM. If we can link the DF with the Attack better and provide some cover for the back four, then our fullbacks can attack and our attacking players will get better service. I think we have the personnel (apart from a DM) but our system is killing us at the moment.
I was thinking a DM and a striker, thought that sounded harsh, and decided you could do without the DM if you had the striker. You're saying you could do without the striker if you had the DM.
A Gooner mate of mine is frustrated that Wenger appears to be reading from The Book of Harry when it comes to using the full squad, namely loaning out every youngster that's any good whilst using the least number of first teamers as possible, which runs the risk of burning out the squad.
I felt I needed to bump this again after they have now lost to league 2 Bradford in the Carling Cup! That has certainly helped get me over Sundays debacle. Thank you Arsenal.
After last weekend,I wonder why I have supported Spurs these 60 years wihout shooting myself......then along come Arsenal to remind me........!
They can't even use the excuses of 'we played our kids' this season. Arsenal are a joke. Long may the French Savile remain in charge.
