I think I quite like this new rule. If the referee isn't totally convinced it's a penalty, give a free-kick on the edge of the area instead.
 
Referee has really bottled it twice tonight, two clear penalty decisions, which probably weren't legit anyway, given as free kicks outside of the box, one for each team, so I suppose it levels things up in the long run, it has done nothing to change recent opinions about the quality of the Officials.
 
Thing was, it was so obvious in real time that Mirallas jumped into Tomkins, and that it was inside the box. How on earth they reached that conclusion is beyond belief.
 
You know that it's a strange one when Carlton Cole gets sent on to score a late one, and he immediately obliges.
 
You can't let Carroll have a free run into the box when a corner is coming in!
 
Such a great cup tie, and I'd say it deserves a penalty shoot out to round it off.
