Agree with that, the whole magic part was just even getting to Wembley, FA cup final Saturday was a ritual on our house too, all the build up and them the game itself
Aye I'm that owld I can even remember NUFC winning the cup in 1951 and the cup was on show in the Co-op along with Jackie Milburn's winners medal. From a time when going to away cup ties was the adventure of the season had to be done by bus as trains were too pricey. One uncle got a ticket for the final and had to borrow the bus fare as the ticket cost five shilling.(that's 25p to you young uns).
The Big Club in Boldon used to have a bus trip there every year regardless of who was playing, tickets to the game included. The footie team must have been affiliated so tickets were availble. Guess that doesn't happen now? Never forget the trip down in '73, first time I had beer in a plastic glass. We were behind the "Porterfield" goal (and the Monty save), about 20 rows back and to the right. Will never forget that atmosphere. I'm sure it still means everything to the Arsenal and Villa fans
Interesting fact about the FA Cup final. Referee Jon Moss is from Sunderland and once played for Sunderland Youth team.
