So if we win it twice it'll be the St Mary's FA Cup?

There must be an awful lot of people out there who take notice of sponsorship and advertising of this kind, because there is also a whole swathe of people like me who don't take the blindest bit of notice. In this particular case, for me, the FA Cup will remain the FA Cup, same as the League Cup is the League Cup. The Premier League is the PL and the Championship is what it is and so on down the leagues. Possibly the only one I think of with the sponsors name first is the Football League Trophy, or as I know it, the Johnstone's Paint Trophy. And that's only because I knew it first as the JPT before I connected it with anything else. I actually thought the FL trophy was something else for long enough for the name JPT to stick.

And I think Johnstone's sponsorship works on me slightly because if I'm seeking paint I do make sure I consider Johnstone's paint. I realise that I'm breaking my principle here but the JPT and Johnstone's Paint get special dispensation. It's only one little bit of sponsorship. :)

We must be on the same wave length.......When ever my wife asks where are Saints playing this week?..... "down the dell love"
Where are you off too?....."off to the dell see you later" As much as I try to correct myself eventually the old cliché (if that's the word) comes back into play. Too many fond memories I guess.........
Be the same with the FA cup as is for the "league Cup" same with the premier league!! Sorry sponsors, waste of time from my point of view!

I think you may be missing the point of sponsorship. It's not you calling it that is important, it is simply recognisition.

I am pretty sure that even if you don't know the name of the brand/company, or refer to it, your brain will have seen the name and will store it. At some point when you are looking at something that is relevant to that company and it's name is there as an option, your brain will be drawn to it. You may not buy, but enough people will recognise it and will be influenced by that recognition in making a purchasing decision.

I suppose to some yes maybe......but as I quoted, for me personally it is wasted......Yes if I was asked I would know who the sponsor is. The point I'm making is the name itself IE "Barclays premier league" The name Barclays has no meaning for me only the premier league bit.
Every time I go into Barclays bank the name has no association with football same as every time I go to a premiership game no association with Barclays.
I do understand the principle of sponsorship though and understand your point. For me though it doesn't work that's how it has always been for me.

Fair enough Beddytare, it doesn't work on everyone.

I won't mention that their marketing department would tell you that your post above shows that their campaign has worked, in the subconscious at least :)

You mentioned the sponsor's name four times in that short post. I'd say they're really getting their money's worth there, wouldn't you?

Oh dear oh dear oh dear.

Jack Wilshire grabs the microphone at the Arsenal cup parade to sing with the crowd.

Willshire: "What do you think of Tottenham"
    Crowd: "****"
Wilshire: "What do you think of ****?"
    Crowd: "Tottenham"

Factually he is correct, but professionally he is wrong.

Is this the behaviour we want from an England star? If I was Wenger I would bin him.
