I know where you are coming from, but all teams buy success in one way or another. You can't be successful without some outlay...we spent relatively serious money to get our promotions (although admittedly combined with good team development as well). I think we are getting the balance right...not going for boom or bust, but building a side.

In our spend thrift days, we probably spent about 30-40 million between 2006 and 2009. If that. Our record signing was only 11 million.

In a similar period of time, Man City have spent nearly 600 million. We may have bought the FA Cup, but our spending is tuppence compared Man City.

difference is you bought the FA cup for 40m (unadjusted for football inflation). City paid for the league title and champions league and this is a freebie.

And Man City's stadium is twice the size.

And, despite Pardew's assertion, unlike Pompey, their manager isn't an "old ****".

    Buy two, get one free?

Yeah, and it was subsidised by the tax player.

Also, at least a few English players played for us in the FA Cup final, not like City today.

It was a bit ironic booing Glen Johnson for being a skate bastard yesterday. Really if you are the kind who enjoys Pompey's current position, he is a Saints hero.

Same with me. There is something nasty about both of them. I was never comfortable with Pardew, bar one day in March a few years back.

Neither of those clubs "bought" their trophies, but they certainly "paid" for them..... with relegation.

I'm just glad we're out of this Cup nonsense. With well-rested players focusing on league results instead.

I do think that a bit of warm weather training might have done the lads some good. International training may seem a bit of a rest to them...can't remember who it was, but one of our players remarked that international training was more restful than Mauricio's.

... and a lot of good it did us, he had the last laugh, we should have exploited him being a right back playing on the left, but never threatened him at all.
It wasn't all of us that booed him just the usual numpties, some do it with a bit of misguided humour, but some just ooze waves of hatred, each to their own I guess.

Definitely can say that about Brum, not so sure about Wigan, think they would've gone anyway n it's great they won something during their spell in top flight

Always the way! People should avoid booing former Southampton/Portsmouth players, it usually comes back to bite you!
