The media have been demonising football supporters for 50 years. I've seen isolated violence in loads of places but it has always been the minority. Some of the worst was in France when I got caught in the middle of some Lens and Lille fans on a Sunday afternoon derby match. Not much fun but, as always, the majority of fans were condemning it and helped me out. Media over sensationalising is laughable but only to be expected. It sells. It leads to ridiculous situations though. I was recently reading the thoughts of some American tourists who were prepared to go to Paris when their only perceived danger was their fear of terrorist attacks. ('No goddamn towel head is gonna stop this Yank on his free movement round the United States of Europe'). But they cancelled their trip when they found out that a Soccer fan zone was being set up near the Eiffel Tower. ('Too dangerous to go with Soccer hooligans openly invited to invade the centre of tourist Paris').
After the Johnson case I remember seeing a graphic which showed the legal age of sexual maturity in different European countries. I remember that Spain was particularly young - 13 I think. If this happened in Spain and the victim was considered a child there she'd have to be 12!
Did they say nearly 20.000 England fans in the ground? Yet all the press concentrate on is a few hundred scummy English. Who by the reports are getting a good hiding.
Already on this very thread. http://www.not606.com/threads/the-euro-2016-thread.330932/page-3#post-9336408
If you overhaul the whole European football calendar you could bin qualifying games altogether and simply go straight into a 2 month long Euros tournament involving all 53 nations if necessary. Spread the competition over 2/3 neighbouring countries to help with logistics. Job done.
Today's Spain team (according to the Spanish press) - De Gea; Juanfran, Ramos, Piqué, Jordi Alba; Busquets, Iniesta, Cesc; Silva, Nolito, Morata.
Czech team - Cech, Limbersky, Hubnik, Sivok, Kaderabek, Darida, Plasil, Rosicky, Krejci, Gebre Selassie, Necid.
Way-hay ! I thought it a bit strange why ITV had Brendon Foster lined up as the co-commentator for this game
Just realised another team I hate is Sweden. Only because of Ibrahimovic, I really dislike him, more than Ronaldo!
Anybody else waiting for this tournament to really get going? For me teams have been too cautious and games too predictable. Maybe 2nd round of group games will see more teams coming out of their shell. What this tournament needs is a good 4-3 end to end cracker
Have you been watching any of the games at all? They might not have been goal-filled, but they have all been really good matches.
