I think I'd have let him go. It's not like this is a league game, where Ireland could look to hang on in with 10 men, grab a late equaliser, and walk home with a point. All that would achieve here would be ET, meaning another 30 mins with 10 men.
Let him go, and pray that he doesn't score. If he does, you're just as out of it as you are now.
If we beat Iceland & go through to play France, its going to be built up into a real spiteful encounter. We're like Millwall of the international game, & we should probably get used to that.
