How do you know that it was 25,000 people?

"According to researchers on the social media site, the tweets were sent from at least 25,000 individuals".

    don't they mean 25,000 accounts?
I don't see how they could know if any accounts were linked to the same person

I don't know how much research they did, but it's possible that they checked IP addresses, for a start.
That wouldn't be completely accurate, as you can mask them, but it would be more accurate.

if it's 1,000 people trying to pretend that there's a lot more I'm sure they would go to the trouble of masking
I'm sure there can be scripts you can use

For what reason? They don't appear to have attempted to get anything trending, for example.
25,000 arseholes worldwide is not a particularly surprising number, in my opinion.
Stormfront has about 300,000 registered users and that's just one site.

They don't appear to have been trying to do that though, as I already pointed out.
The comment section of The Express reveals quite a lot of similar nutbags, if a little toned down:
    http://www.express.co.uk/news/uk/736785/Jo-Cox-murder-neo-Nazi-police-crack-down

Some will have been trolls and attention seekers, but I'm sure a lot of them actually do believe what they're posting.
What number do you believe is accurate and why?

Except that you'd expect the people at Twitter to know how Twitter profiles work, really.

It's funny that your critical thinking skills and scepticism have just kicked in for this, though.
Millions of Daily Mail and Express stories go unquestioned, but this figure you have a problem with.
    Why's that?

But come the early hours of tomorrow you'll be cutting and pasting Nazi propaganda from the Daily Saxton and the Daily Kustard, none of which will have an ounce of substance or credibility but all of which you will insist is fact.

Keep gorging on the doughnuts Pete, your missus and her daughter are long overdue their prize.

Why do you think that knowing "how twitter profiles work" mean that they have anything to contribute regarding the number of people posting?
I think about all stories. I just dont have any bias like you have.

You do realise that it's Twitter posts that are being discussed, right?

If you think about all stories, then you wouldn't post the unsourced, anonymous stuff that you always do.
Random, anonymous politician claims that random, anonymous translator claims that Islamic asylum seekers hate the UK?
Remember that one? Didn't see much scepticism being applied to it.
