    Ho hum indeed.

As I said, I am quite happy to play along with your labels just as long as it winds up some of those that I feel deserve to be wound up.

I personally don't have a problem with that scenario. I guess it means, in some ways we can opt in and out and even divert funding to other research programs elsewhere in the world.

You can pretend you're playing a game if you like, but anyone who could carry that name, avatar and sig, as a 'joke' is warped imo.

I can only conclude that the reality is, you are what you have portrayed yourself as.

    For shame.

Republicanism at its finest. Stop taxing us and let us decide for ourselves where to spend OUR money.

For instance, I resent paying N.I. contributions for something I very rarely use. I would much rather pay for a quality private service as and when I need it. If I am to pay towards someone else's upkeep, I want to do so voluntarily (if at all), not be forced to.

Not sure I agree with this. I have to believe that we are all contributing for the greater good when it comes to N.I.
My point around research grants (and it's not a subject I know a great deal about) is if our new arrangements make us, as a country, more flexible around where we direct funding, then I'm generally in favour.

The over misuse of the labels has had the exact opposite effect from what they'd hoped.

They've made them meaningless and people see them being used to try to end a debate and cover a lack of real argument.

I disagree here, look at Fat yank land and how poor people suffer without heath insurance. NI is fine as it is.

N.I. pays for the National pension pot as well.

Whether you're getting 'value' from your tax and NI contributions when it comes to the NHS, depends on how much you're paying in total.

To the majority this would be less than the genuine full cost of health insurance in a non-NHS system.

In all truth, I am not a great fan of the welfare state as weak government policy allows it to be abused by so many. I trust the govt with my money and they don't use it wisely.

Put taxes on products and let me choose what I use my money on. I don't need a nanny state to tell me what's good for me.

    What. You will google more inaccurate bs about the economy one day soon? The thing is I DO expect it. What I don't expect is for you to post something;

    a) factual
    b) interesting
    c) lacking in arrogance

You get the point Liam :emoticon-0146-punch
