I still fail to see the difference between Mercia , Wessex and Northumbria being forced to merge to create England and Scotland merging with England to make the UK. Like I said before, allowing parts of the UK to threaten secession every time the democratic process doesn't go their way is a dangerous precedent. They need to shut that **** down

When BP had that oil accident in America in 2010, which caused a death of a worker and a massive environmental issue, the US government really criticised the company.
Toby Young was on Question Time that week and his contribution was to accuse the Americans of being anti British and to say that it was outrageous that BP was being criticised and that he couldn't wait until the following weekend when England would kick Americas arse in the World Cup match.
This man was allowed to run a school!

If you had seen the changes to the benefit system the way I have you would have a very different view.

The system is no longer about assessing a persons needs the way it was when I worked on supplementary benefit at the DHSS in the mid eighties.
It is about minimising admin and paying as little as possible whilst having no care about how much debt the most vulnerable in society accrue.
Some areas of the country have completely dropped the pretence since localised council tax support and administration of discretionary hardship was passed out to local authorities.

The only people currently protected by the system are pensioners and private landlords

This authority bases your ability to pay council tax solely on a households income. A single person with no kids gets the same level of support as a couple with 2 kids despite the available income to pay council tax of a family being much lower than a single person with no family commitments.
How this works is the family on low income either sacrifices other essentials to pay, goes into debt or is chased by bailiffs until they pay. If the bailiffs can't collect the debt then the council use the discretionary hardship budget to cover their loss.

 

At least he's highlighting some of the flaws of some people's arguments when they try to lay so many problems of the of the economy on people on benefits.
