I did get the impression that dubai was the more acceptable face of that part of the world but it was still very obvious who was master and servant.
I was taking my father in laws ashes back to India when we stopped there and three of us were of Indian appearance so perhaps I was more conscious of it than most westerners.

 

Okay, seeing as you have mentioned Dubai and planes I will tell my bother's story about Dubai Air traffic. It's a bit long winded so bear with me:

My brother is an Air Traffic controller, and he's also trains students to become controllers too. The English standard of air traffic is considered to be the best in the world, so my brother often travels abroad to work and deliver training courses. In Dubai he was telling me that he was training a group of students. A theoretical practice they do is to give a scenario and the students have to risk assess to ensure that there is always a safe distance between aircraft. So for example, aircraft A is on the ground awaiting clearance to take off, aircraft B is starting its final descent, aircraft C is holding waiting for clearance to land. My bother would then throw in a set of variables that alters the scenario, so for example a sudden headwind or change of weather, priority call, emergency technical issue etc and the students have work out how to maintain a safe distance between the aircraft.

So, he is going along this line and the students are correctly managing the changing scenarios, until faced with a set of multiples one of the students earnestly says :

'In that situation it is Inshallah (God willing)'.
My Brother says 'What do you mean ?'
The student replies 'If I were faced with that many scenarios then it wouldn't make any difference what I did, because the will of God would be stronger than any measure I could implement'
My bothers says 'You don't understand, you can't do that, it's your job to make sure that you have a plan to maintain a safe distance',
The student replies 'No, you don't understand. No matter what I do in that situation, my influence will not be as strong as the will of God, therefore it is pointless for me to even do anything'
My brother says 'You can't do that, you have to have a plan to manage the situation'
The student says 'My plan will make no difference, because in that scenario, the will of God will be stronger, therefore it is irrelevant what I do'

 

It's a hideous place mate, a marble and glass Marbs on steroids.

The kind of expat who lives and works over there are in the main the absolute dregs of the greed culture imo
Sell your soul for tax free cash and kid yourself on that the lifestyle is some form of utopia, there's some truly sad ****s living in that place. They obviously turn a blind one to the cruel and inhumane underbelly that is not hard to spot.

 

Just a quick discussion about the Saudis, mostly. I've been out here on business and the way they treat so called ' brother muslims' from poorer countries, like Bangladesh, is appalling.

I couldn't agree more about the Saudis. They treat them like ****. You can't buy property there unless it is under co ownership of a native. You can marry a Saudi woman and all future investments are to be on her name. Just a few of the examples I know of. I've been there myself. Went to Jeddah for a month.

For me its people like that who make a mockery of faith..let me assure you that that is not the way a Muslim is told to think. That is when people have a holier than thou attitude so much so that they totally warp their own thoughts. Its like the bloke who liked the song, the CD, her smile then ended up obsessed and ****ing himself up.

Examples of this kind of stupidity is given many a time in traditional Islamic teachings. Some folk though are dangerously helpless.

I'll never go to Dubai out of principle. The materialistic bastards. The amount of money they have, they could contribute to the world in so many ways. Instead they bring to us ****ty palm tree shaped fake islands.

Dubai is a ****ing hideous place. I thought that in 2001 when it still had some semblance of an Arab soul. Since then it's gradually got even worse and when I went (for the last time) in 2015 it was obvious that it's beyond repair.

Never been to Saudi, never will.

Go to Oman, beautiful country, lovely people.

 

Yep, totally agree. I wasn't posting it as a criticism of Islam more just the ludicrous nature of blind faith. All faiths do this to a degree in my opinion, but I would have thought that even if you have a faith, then surely the best way to interpret a situation like this is to think 'God gave me a brain, I'd best use it !'
