It's a 1/5 the odds a place for all group 1's. Even if it had of been a handicap then it still would of been 1/5 odds a place as only 5 runners. Sorry Tam I don't make up the rules
Sorry, Mick, I can't agree with you there. As I already said, where have you got your info. from? I've looked at two major bookmaker's rules and they confirm 1/4 odds for 5-7 runners, handicaps and stake races. Anyhow, no problem- it's for Ron to decide, if and when it becomes relevant.
I'm sorry if I caused a problem by not fully stating the rules for the competition. This is a fun competition and, for simplicity, whenever I run a competition I always keep it simple and work to 1/4 odds in every race. Also, if there are at least 15 starters (under orders) then it's on the first 4 regardless of type of race. I do apologise and will make this clear in the next competition. If anyone can think of anything else that needs clarification please let me know.
Correct,I work for an on course bookmaker and we always pay this although some rip off merchants don't.
Different bookmakers have different offers, even on the course you can see different offers. The main thing is that the rules of the competition are clear and I will try to make sure this is the case next time.
1/4 odds on all handicap races. 16+ runners = 1,2,3,4 places. 8+ runners = 1,2,3 places. 7- runners = 1,2 places. All non-handicaps ie: Maidens, Group Races, Classified Stakes, Listed Races (Usually Stakes (although can also be handicap form)). 1/5 odds 7- runners = 1,2 places 8+ runners = 1,2,3 places These are the rules. It's at the bookmakers discretion as to what they offer though. As yesterdays Coronation cup was a group 1 race then it's generally 1/5 although individual bookmakers do sometimes offer 1/4 as way of promotion.
From Ladbrokes Handicaps, Nursery and Rated Stakes Handicap races of 16 or more runners - 1/4 odds first 4 places. All races of 5, 6 and 7 runners - 1/4 odds first 2 places. From Coral 8.3 Horses and Greyhounds In races of 5-7 runners we pay 1/4 of the win odds 1st and 2nd places.
