A lovely afternoon in my spinney cutting out brambles and diseased wood with very little blood loss. At the end I wanted to burn it before the pile grew any larger, but there was not a breath of wind to help. I have some very tall elm trees and not even a twitch from the wind at the highest point. It has been the same for five days in the past seven, so I hope it is the same tomorrow when I go to have words with the inspector.

They include government spending and tax allowances. Government spending can be and in many of these cases is profit driven as well as having a societal objective and cannot be called a subsidy (gross spend) (It's like me lending my neighbour £100 at 1000%APR on a Tuesday and saying I'll let him back down to 500% Wednesday and then claiming I'm subsidizing him). Tax allowances particularly in the UK are against the excess taxes such as Petroleum Revenue Tax and are allowable against profits over and above normal corporation taxes etc so again do not fit my definition of subsidy which to me is a cash conteribution or negative cash flow from subsidizer to subsidized. Most of the worlds hydrocartbon "subsidies" are in third world developing countries to make energy affordable to either keep population "happy(ish) e.g. Saudi and Venezuela or to help push industrialization e.g. China.

<ok> Got it... thanks

<laugh> There you have it then ;)

Most observers appear to be describing the outcome of the Conference as a success

Domestic electricity which this is talking about, is 27% of the total required. Since 2000 the demands for electricity in the UK have reduced mainly due to better insulation in homes and people being more aware on how to save on usage.

Although I don't particularly agree with their methods, how can they all get sent to prison for delaying a few flights yet NO ONE has been to prison for helping to cause the last financial crisis.

The judge even said
Giving her verdict at Willesden magistrates’ court, district judge Deborah Wright said the cost of the disruption at the airport on 13 July 2015 was “absolutely astronomical”.
Welcome to 21st century Britain, where you have the right to protest as long as it doesn't cost rich people any money. (and you don't mind getting beaten up/sent to jail)

I wonder what our current society would have made of the suffragette movement...

Fully agree Blair and Brown should be both banged up alongside their Banker mates....I wonder how the ordinary people who had flights cancelled or delayed think about be called "rich people".
Criminal damage, trespass and endangering the lives on innocent people - yes, they deserve to get banged up.

Blair and Brown's banker mates? <laugh>

Those people will be refunded for their flights, I was talking about the owners of Heathrow/the airline companies, the people that actually lost money.

They're just a bunch of overenthusiastic protesters and no lives were lost. Fine them and give them a suspended sentence and/or police surveillance, sending them to prison is ridiculous.
