Off Topic The Environment

The government is to reject calls to place a legal duty on water companies to reduce raw sewage discharges into rivers.

MPs will debate the environmental bill on Wednesday in its final stages through parliament, and clean water campaigners want them to back what they say is a key amendment on sewage that was agreed in the House of Lords.

Why?
Because they are corporate loving twats like the repugnikkkan party across the pond. So obvious where these absolute charlatans are steering us.

It might be a good idea to ask your MP if he/she voted this week to allow this to happen.

The Director of the Environment Agency told
@ITVTonight
that England’s rivers should not be swum in.

It maybe getting colder now, but many people enjoy putting on a wet suit and going for a swim in local rivers. Only a few years ago we were hearing about wildlife that had returned to the much cleaner rivers. To lose the gains made would be a disaster both for the animals and fish that rely on clean water, but also for the humans who should be able to enjoy them.

I've seen some idiotic interviewers over the years, but this one takes the cake...<doh>

Guest: - You can't grow concrete

Interviewer: - Yes you can.

"It appears that concrete seeds have been eaten by pigeons and are now too heavy to take off." One of the many comments on this story.

It seems that the 1% are to blame for climate change - if there's any hope for the planet, it means they will have to change their ways.

We might as well say goodbye now...:(

I saw this on BBC Breakfast - couldn't believe this was Romania. Can't quite get my head around the concept of sending this stuff anywhere! Less red tape now so undoubtedly we'll be depriving these poor folks a means of making money. It's like a Steven Segal movie / Wall-E all coming to a head.
This should be the best of times for all but no! We have to suffer with corporate greed, xenophobia, religious bigotry, wilful scientific ignorance, all at the whim of those who shout loudest. I reckon I've got maybe, just maybe, 25 years absolute tops left on the planet - but I wonder if the planet has 25 years left for me? What a ****show.

Although I agree with the sentiment over foods packaged as in the picture,I don't think it's quite that simple when it comes to fresh fruit & veg. For example, my parents had a small orchard in their garden in Watford - growing a variety of apples and pears. Fruit wasn't always in abundance for some reason, but when it was there was generally an overabundance which we had to eat before they would buy any fresh. It used to be stored in the garage, where it all went mushy pretty quickly.

I'm sure it doesn't just apply to up here, but the bulk of the fruit & veg we buy here is grown locally - what used to stay 'fresh' for anything up to 4 days, now is withered after a day, even when stored in the fridge. So unless we are prepared to only eat 'seasonally' we really need to import from other countries.

A new law banning plastic packaging on most fruit and vegetables came into effect in France from New Year's day.

Cucumbers, lemons and oranges are among the 30 varieties banned from being wrapped in plastic.

I never have understood why it is necessary to put two potatoes on a plastic tray, and then cover them with plastic film.
