For those of you old enough to know and that believe in karma..... I pass no comment. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/art...-Mark-Aizlewood-killed-marriage-break-up.html
Read something like that recently, but also conscious that Ailzewood suffered from depression, and had tried to take his own life (I believe)
A good team takes time to develop, but I believe we have players who will improve particularly some of the youngsters.
Rumours doing the rounds that Karl Robinson walked out on MKD to take over at Millwall....... Now that would be funny!
WJ everytime I watched Delph I knew he was the best out of the academy for ages at that time, he stood out. Howson was a kid blowing hot and cold but more hot as he got older and grew into the armband. Clayton was marmite to start with but again I knew he was different and most did by the time he left. Nobody complained about Beckford more than me, but he made at least 6 attempts every game and some from nowhere, and of those six attempts he usually got 1. Yes shyte ratio but goals and thats what we miss. Not heard many complain about Max or Snods so not with you there. However the Grayson side and Monks side are are complementary as Grayson couldnt defend and Monk cant score. That was the main post and I dont see anything to detract from that. We need creativity and end product. That means sacko needs to give quality final ball and Wood either needs a partner or to be given more chances, which means something different in the middle/wings
Doc, if Cellino maintains this level of profile and backs monk then he is being the sort of owner I'd have no problem with. Long may it continue
Hey'up Billy...... Monk, like any coach picks his players on bench in preparation for a plan B if the team need it, he's the coach, it's his responsibility to be foreseeing any problems that can arise against the opposing teams and work out what he can, and will do to remedy the situation/s, be they keeper, defence, midfield or attacking problems. No malice Billy, but didn't you say "Monk is an intelligent bloke who understands what successful teams look like", if he's as intelligent as you believe he is, and I'm not berating him, or you, but wouldn't he have analysed, discussed with Pep and worked out a plan B before every match, isn't that suppose to be why he picks certain players on bench, and isn't it why he should be recognising certain weaknesses well before there are 5 minutes left to play? In all honesty, his substitutions are not a lot to write home about most of time, he leaves'em too late imo. He expects Antonsson to grab an equaliser or a winner in last 5 minutes, granted he, or another striker on may be lucky in grabbing one on the odd occasion, but it ain't going to happen every time they come on with 5 minutes to play. I'm 65% on Monks side, but like I previously mentioned, there's something not quite right about him at moment. In answer to your question "tell you what, let's say we were 1-0 down at Wolves with 20 mins to go, what would your plan b have been?" To be realistic, I will say it's an unfair question to ask anyone, even Monk, untill the problem or weakness is identified and assessed during game. The answer/s I think you may be looking for are, and bearing in mind I wouldn't know who is playing, We'd obviously need to grab at least an equaliser, if Wood looks like he's never going to score then I'd bring Antonsson on in Woods place and switch it to a 4-4-2 as we'd need the extra strike power. I'd also look at both wingers (on with Roofe or Duke, both scorers) and the midfield to see if a sub needs making there with an attacking mid to accommodate the 4-4-2. I'd be thinking along the lines of, if we lose 1-0 or 2-0 we still lose, so take the chance, in for a penny in for a pound so to speak. If the keeper was having a bad game (Green or Silvestri) then he would've been subbed at half time. If we have a problem with the opposition getting around and behind our defence, then I'd look at making a sub in our defence and attack, but the main objective would be to grab at least an equaliser, then go for a 2nd, so I'd still go for my first choice....... Like I mentioned, it's a hard question to ask unless they know who the team is, what formation we're playing and who their defenders are. Just my opinion of course, I'm sure others would have their own way of subbing.
