I love the way that Thicko has a "live by the sword, die by the sword" mentality - until it comes to Rangers. The rules are there to be applied and to ensure the dignity of the games administrators, surely they should be applied thoroughly as a warning to others.
No Timmy Opposing a Rangers Newco being put straight in the top division would be unpatriotic - Celtic doing the same would be a surefire sign of Lawwell's pals running the game
To be fair to Leggo he does make some good points albeit in a preposterous, threatening tone. Where his argument falls apart is when he basically sounds a warning to everyone not to cross "Dangerous" Craig Whyte as if he is some latter day Moriarty. Wtf are St Mirren, Dundee Utd, Hearts et al supposed to be worried about in that regard? What's Craig going to do if they vote to hammer Rangers? Steal their players?
I just wonder if the smaller clubs would gain some support from Rangers fans. If Rangers get liquidated, they might need another ground - rent Hampden? - but they will also be playing at much smaller away grounds. Some Rangers fans might fancy just watching a bit of top flight footie and go and support their local teams, especially when the likes of Celtic and Aberdeen go and visit.
Cossy the decent Rangers support will come maybe initially just to watch Celtic and whatever team they are playing and of course Celtic will welcome them. However the normal scrum, those sitting on the kerb drinking would not be welcome at Celtic Park and I hope at no other ground.
He's pretty **** for a journo..........only 6 clubs will decide their fate if need be. Can't remember who!! Celtic, Hibs, Dundee Utd are 3 of them though I'm sure. Certainly Hibs as rumours are they are starting the campaign to not allow them straight back in to the SPL! Is it a definite rule they get a ten point penalty? Or is like all scottish football laws that are ****e and seem to be penciled in as 'we'll cross that bridge when we come to it'?
Make it up as they go along I think. No way a newco could go into the top division. What kind of laughing stock does that make of sport in Scotland?
I heard that too about Hibs btw. They mentioned it on the CU podcast also. I don't understand any logic at all to justify a completely new team should bypass 3 divisions of football. They should have to satisfy some criteria even to be considered for that.
The "rules" are not really rules...more like guidelines, so they can make it up as they go along. Which is fair enough I suppose, I mean no one could have foreseen this happening.
I heard the 6 clubs decide the punishment if they allow them in to the SPL! So could be nothing or 20 points for the next 10 years!!!!!! Should be clear rules & punishments for every eventuality.
The route into the SPL is to get promoted from the first division. How can a new club be saddled with a points penalty just because another one can't manage their affairs properly. How can a new club be considered any more worthy of a place in the top division than any club in the 1st, 2nd and 3rd divisions. If and when Rangers are no more, that is it, finito. Rangers go the way of Third Lanarke. If they start a new club, then they'll start from the bottom, same as anyone else. Administration and they get a points penalty, get cleaned out and banned from europe for 3 years. They get banned from europe anyway for losing the tax case and owing money to the tax man that they don't have, so I imagine they'll go into admin then.
What will Leggo say about the finance revelations and the selling of Rangers prized asset today, then? Well, as it turns out, he ignores it completely and has a tenuous rant at an old favourite please log in to view this image
Ships? I see no ships says Leggo. And "Mumsnet", whoof, Spiersy must be ****eing it. What an embarrassing rant this is from Leggo, you really do wonder what goes on inside his head.
I look forward to Leggo's take on this: http://www.dailyrecord.co.uk/footba...s-me-keep-calm-about-football-86908-23729711/
