Thursday, 6 December 2012 IRA SHAME OF CELTIC, LAWWELL AND LENNON THERE are those within Parkhead – Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell being chief among them – who are more conversant with the sin of omission than I am. My old Scots Presbyterian granny had no wise words on the subject. Which makes it strange that Celtic in general and Peter Lawwell in particular, have nothing to say about the fact that one of their star players consorts with IRA terrorists. In fact the player goes even further. He idolises IRA terrorists, bombers and gangsters. The player of course is Anthony Stokes. But any comment from Peter Lawwell on this extraordinary and shameful behaviour by a highly paid, high profile member of the Celtic staff has not been forthcoming. Which is an appalling dereliction of Peter Lawwell’s duty as Celtic’s chief executive, as well as his duty as a British citizen, something I know he is keen to remain after the Separatist vote. And something he is is prepared to sit down with anyone to achieve in defence of the Union, with Lawwell prepared to wrap himself and Celtic in the Union Flag. But, in the matter of Anthony Stokes, he appears less inclined to muster to the Union's forces of law and order and the media now stand accused of what many may see as collusion with Lawwell in trying to play down and cover up this shocking public association between a high profile international footballer, who is a role model for children and teenagers and an idol for the IRA terrorist loving members of Green Brigade. Newspapers, television and radio reporters should be door stepping Celtic, they should be on Celtic’s case and they should not rest until Peter Lawwell comes out and condemns the totally unacceptable behaviour of his IRA terrorist loving player, Celtic and Republic of Ireland star, Anthony Stokes. A failure to speak out by Lawwell can be interpreted by many, as him silently condoning such behaviour. Surely that cannot be the case despite the appearance of it being so? Surely Peter Lawwell, who is Celtic’s chief executive, who sits in the Hampden boardroom alongside Scottish Football Association chief executive Stewart Regan and who is one of the most powerful and influential voices inside the Scottish Premier League, does not want to be seen by some as condoning the IRA-Celtic connection brought about by high profile Celtic employee Anthony Stokes? And what of the most high profile of all Celtic employees, manager Neil Lennon? What is his view? That remains a mystery, as he too has been silent on the matter and he too has escaped proper questioning and normal scrutiny from newspapers, television and radio reporters. What we do know is that when one female Irish reporter bravely investigated the story surrounding the now dead IRA terrorist who is so revered by Anthony Stokes, Alan Ryan, she received death threats. And these were not the sort which came from two halfwits from Ayrshire whose attempts at sending bombs to Neil Lennon were the efforts of fools who could not, according to the police, construct a viable device, but who, nevertheless, were rightly jailed. The Irish journalist got the sort of sinister, serious and chilling threats from the sort of IRA terrorists and gangsters who are quite capable of carrying them out. Given the publicity and public sympathy Neil Lennon got when he was the victim of half arsed threats, one could surely reasonably assume that Neil Lennon would empathise and be among the first to speak out and offer his sympathy to the Irish journalist, coupled with strong words about his player, Anthony Stokes’ connection with the IRA and the sort of terrorist gangers who have delivered a very real death threat to an Irish reporter. Such an assumption would be wrong. For Neil Lennon, like Peter Lawwell, has been as silent as the grave on the subject. What Peter Lawwell and Neil Lennon have committed has been the sin of omission. I think. Whatever they may say now, or at a later date, will be seen as being too little and far too late. One can only hope, however, that if they do break this silence on the subject, it is not forced out of them by anything untoward happening to the brave female Irish journalist who has been threatened by the IRA. She is an example to all the cowering cowards of reporters in this increasingly dark and undemocratic country of Scotland who quiver in fear of Peter Lawwell, while a brave and proper reporter in Ireland has been the target of entirely viable threats issued to an Irish colleague by the IRA. Shame on them. Shame on Anthony Stokes. Shame on Peter Lawwell. Shame on Neil Lennon. Shame on Celtic.
