I'm a believer in borrowing cheap money to invest in something that will be worth a lot more, than the cost of borrowing. If interest rates are high, don't borrow

My reading of the story as reported so far is that this company had probably been selling cheap cremation deals but when the energy prices went through the roof, they could no longer economically do the job so they put the bodies on ice instead. In ‘Ull it will be mostly Labour voters they were toasting/freezing. It is good news for the Lib Dems as it keeps them running the Council. The bodies in freezers would have been in sausage rolls by now had they not got caught.

After the fall of the Conservative government of Macmillan/Home in 1964 Enoch Powell said there comes a time in every Government and Party when they must lose power in order to renew themselves. That day is long overdue for the current Conservative Government and Party. To hear Jeremy Hunt state that William Wragg had been courageous in explaining his treachery towards fellow MPs turned my stomach. To my generation, but especially to the preceeding generation to mine, being courageous meant flying a Lancaster over Germany occupied Europe, or sailing in a boat in the U-boat infested Atlantic or sitting in a tank and being shot at by crack German troops. It did not mean coughing up a despicable excuse of how he, Wragg, had compromised his colleagues, and maybe friends, for his own ends. It recalls the Jeremy Thorpe quote (against Macmillan) that 'No greater love has a man than that he lays down his friends for his life'. What has happened to us? How did we end up with compromisable jokes like Wragg in positions of influence and authority in our government.
One word - apathy. Talented people no longer see politics as a worthwhile career so it is left to sleazebags and jokers to fill the void.
Can't afford a house? Move to Germany! Grand Designs star Kevin McCloud has told first time buyers if they can't afford to buy a house 'move to Germany'. The TV presenter advised young people looking to get on the property ladder to abandon their hopes of buying a house in the UK and instead 'move to another country where the housing market is healthy'. So what do our resident Anglo-Germans say...??
A load of old bollocks. The building industry is in major decline due to interest rates, cost of building material and over-burdensome building regulations. There is a shortfall of nearly 1 million „social flats“ for those who can’t even afford to rent a place. Anyway, post-Brexit UK citizens can’t just move to Germany
Bernanke marks the Bank of England's homework and gives it a very low score. Surprise, surprise. At least, I suppose, they didn't mark their own. But then again they wouldn't know how to.
Just reading about the horrific stabbings in a Sydney shopping mall today. 6-people dead and a child injured. What a mad mad world we live in, led by a few lunatic political monsters. A medal for the lone Australian police officer in the mall at the time, who shot the perpetrator dead. Sorry for this disjointed post, but this incident has upset me greatly.
I think Ian Fleming is to blame. Bond films have given Putin the idea that he is Blofeld and he has formed SPECTRE with China, North Korea, Iran etc. it is painfully obvious. They should start watching Coronation Street instead to learn the value of a quiet pint in the Rovers.
The OECD claim the UK will be the slowest growing economy of the major economies next year. Their reason seems to be that (high) interest rates are holding the UK back. Meanwhile the FTSE 100 sets another record and the FTSE 250 goes above 20,000 for the first time since early 2023.
Everyone in a tizzy here in Germany because the economy will only grow 0.2% this year. Still the 3rd biggest economy globally but you'd think the country was on the verge of bankruptcy the way the CDU (conservative union) bang on. The fact that they were in power for 16 years prior to this government, made Germany dependent on Putin's gas, ignored the threats of an ageing population, lack of digitalisation and slowed the growth of renewable energy but yet blame everything on the current government just makes you The newest statistic today was about dwindling overseas investment in Germany. Its patently obvious that countries such as France, Italy and the USA are building up huge debt/GDP ratios by cutting taxes everywhere they can to encourage overseas investment but that can't be the way forward surely? We have record employment in Germany, a much increased minimum wage and a social system to be proud of. The Dax is just below its record highs from last month. Not bad at all and the beer is still cheap and plentiful.
glad to hear the beer is cheap ! i’m going to soest in august , a council shindig thing , we are twinned with the place , i’m trying to get a train to brussels with bike , then cycle there ....reading up on the history , interested place ....
The testimony from the Post Office hierarchy and Fujitsu dudes is cringeworthy. The more that comes out the more damning the evidence becomes. Post Office senior cheeses spending a few years sewing mailbags would be very apt.
