Adam was a playmaker at Blackpool - he only developed a more sinister side when he moved to Liverpool and was only worth a place if he offered something "different".

On the basis of his Blackpool performances, he was worth a punt.

I can't agree with that. Nor, I would think, would Gareth Bale. I still vividly remember the malicious, deliberate stamp he made on Bales's ankle at WHL.

True, NSIS. There were a few bad tackles on Bale by him.

My point wasn't that he was a saint at Blackpool, but that 'Arry's interest was based on his ability on the ball. Since he hasn't had that role, the "tackling" has become his stock in trade.

I think, to be honest, he just looked good in an average Blackpool side. As soon as he left and went to L'pool, he looked what he is, just an average player, only with psychopathic, violent tendencies.

I saw the second one. It was in Baltimore in an exhibition game. <grr>

The thing is, he has, or at least had, his moments as a player. None of them at Liverpool, interestingly enough, to judge from their fans opinion of him.

We went for Adam so that he couldn't injure any more of our players. Would have had to train in slippers <ok>

You could compare him to Parker in his last season at Wet Spam

...with the obvious difference that Parker is a good footballer and not some scumbag with a pathological need to injure Spurs players.

Petr Cech would certainly agree.
Hunt's still around, by the way. Not playing much, though. Recently joined by his brother Noel at Ipswich.

he was a bit of a nasty little basterd wasn't he?

One of those things that will divide opinion but the lack of remorse/apology from Hunt + the fact he knew what he was doing puts him alongside Ben Thatcher and others for me. Take nothing away from United but we'd have won the league (and domestic treble) that year but for Reading taking out both our keepers. Hate that club with a passion.

Bit harsh, DL. Not really something that they've made a habit of.
I can understand hating Hunt, as I feel much the same way about John Fashanu, but I'm not sure Reading deserve any of the blame for it.

I can understand DL's sentiments towards Reading. unless Reading made a statement to apologise etc etc.

if they did not then it shows a lack of class from them and deserved the negativity towards them.

Never going to happen, is it? i suspect that their lawyers advised them just to keep schtum.

I mean we've never seen Blackpool, L'pool, or Stoke coming out and saying, "we apologise for the fact that one of our players is a violent psychopath, who tries to cripple opposition players"

yeah I totally understand....but I think what happened to Cech was a bit different.....however my point is I can understand the hatred towards the player and the club due to no sense of apology from anywhere.

I think most of us accept that part of a DM’s job is to give the other team reason for concern. In my mind, Parker and Sandro (obviously) and even Nigel de Jong and Ramirez are okay, just doing their jobs, though de Jong may be a little OTT. But Adam, as you say, is pathological. It is a fine line, though, as I think De Jong illustrates. De Jong has caused a few injuries. Though I don’t think he’s malicious (unlike Adam), he arguably crosses the line that separates hard DMs from reckless ones who should be banned.

I think Ben Arfa would disagree red after De Jong fractured his tib and fib and his kick in Alonsos' chest wasn't malicious??

I got ****, here in Spain, for ages over that. Nobody could believe that "El arbitro Ingles" hadn't produced a red card. Luckily, Spain won anyway. If they'd lost, I think I would have had to move.
