We conceded 3 goals in 7 minutes in the 2nd half, when Cattermole wasn't playing. Our defence isnt great when he is covering them, but without him our defence was hopeless. We were playing a back 3, which is why Everton made progress down the wings but the biggest issue was Kone’s ability to leave our central defenders behind, turn them and get in behind them so easily. Relying on a central defender who hasnt played a game all season and is way past his prime didnt help at all

I'm not necessarily saying drop Cattermole now, but replace him (permanently)... separate debate really, not one I wish to engage in again so soon. 7 minutes is irrelevant, you went two nil down whilst he was on the pitch and you also scored your two goals when he was off the pitch. Your full back PVA just had another nightmare, I'd be surprised if he's not replaced in January.

we hit the post twice while he was on the pitch... and the 1st 25 minutes were arguably our best. Whatever you think of Cattermole, we dont have anyone who can fill his role at the moment. Rodwell was, once again, a useless addition to the squad who didnt provide anything. We weren't playing full backs... PVA and Yedlin were playing as wingers in a 3-4-3 (3-4-1-2). If we payed full backs, we would have seen Jones at LB and Yedlin at RB. PVA would have been on the bench.

Why do you need somebody to fill his role? His role is chaotic, redundant and ineffective. His huge flaws are being blanketed by M'Vila's class. He was injured and the game tipped on it's head when he went off, you completely shocked Everton and had them on the ropes. After that point, you started committing too many forward to pursue a win and you got picked off for the Everton third then you just collapsed as a unit. Attempting to say you were better with him in your side by saying you only conceded two of your six with him on the pitch is one of the weakest argument to support a player I've ever seen. I've no idea how you think hitting the post twice whilst he was on the pitch seems to count as a positive, yet fail to mention you scored twice without him there. PVA and Yedlin were deployed as wing backs, which means PVA had his usual defensive responsibilities as a full back and he got picked apart by the Spanish kid at will.

I know you dont like him, but Have you seen our attempts at playing without a traditional DM ? With the current squad we have, playing 4-4-2 and even 4-5-1 without Catts and relying on Rodwell or Gomez is crazy. You say Catts is ineffective, but Rodwell or Gomez are inexistent when on the pitch. M'Villa cant replace Catts as the midfield enforcer.

Must admit from what I've seen of him this year, I think it's time to lose Cattermole. Really can't see he's that effective. January is going to be very interesting.
I think he'll be in your squad until at least the end of the season mate, like I say, full backs should be the priority. If you get better full backs, I actually think it'll have a knock-on effect throughout your entire squad. The centre halves will be doing less work, less panicked, therefore there'll be more authority from them, less requirement for Cattermole which should see M'Vila partnered by a cleverer CM which would see M'Vila thrive, more comfort in midfield allowing Borini/Lens/Johnson to showcase their talents more often... I think it's as simple as this, until you get some real quality at full back, you're going to need firefighters in front of them and your team will look disjointed. I wouldn't be surprised to see you lot race up the table if Sam can secure two experienced and effective full backs in January early doors.
