Poor Italy. Spain were exceptional tonight. Perhaps the 4-6-0 is here to stay, however Torres did ok when he came on. Feel a bit sorry for Llorente - arguably Spain's most in form striker and he did not get a kick whereas Torres and Negredo at least got a run out.
Scotland did try it and ended up playing a flat back seven in one of their recent games - maybe against the Czechs or the Dutch - even their fans were mortified.
I didn't watch Scotland's game vs the Czech's, but from what I understand they played more of a 9-1-0 than a 4-6-0. That might have been Scotland's problem.
What's all this talk of 4-6-0? Spain play 4-3-3, changing to 2-5-3, and even 2-3-5, when they have the momentum. Yesterday, everyone on the pitch looked like they wanted to score, whereas before yesterday, none of them did. Clearly, having got to the final, they found the ability to gamble which they seemed to have temporarily mislaid earlier in the tournament. They still looked better with Torres on though. Gotta feel for Italy though. At 2-0 and with 11 men, they were still in the game, just about, and certainly still up for it. Once they went down to 10, the cause was lost.
I don't think anyone could have lived with Spain last night. They were awesome, rather than boring, and switched it on right at the best time. The frightening thing is, I think they could have even gone to a higher gear. I have to admit, I am jealous of Spanish football fans today - purely on a footballing level, I wouldn't want their financial problems!
I thinks its more frightening that basically the entire spain squad will make Brazil in two years, and that they seem to do really well at every youth level. Want to glimpse the future, watch a replay of Spain v England at last years U21 tournament, when Engalnd were totally outplayed.
