All the more reason why I don't believe that it will be long before an announcement is made on several fronts.....the implications of MITO's slightly more cynical view doesn't bare thinking about
I heard one of the cleaners has a maths GCSE, maybe they could do it. I do believe the owners are strategically savvy, they have a vision and they know what they want. I'm also more inclined to believe that they wouldn't have sacked Kenny unless they felt the right man for the job was readily available for them to approach. Not sure who their man is, but I'm certain we have targetted someone regardless of what they say, and there must be mutual interest. I think the DoF role is something we don't need to rush, so perhaps they'll wait longer for that right person. I do honestly think Dein is likely to get the CEO role in the next few days which would be a good step to take.
spearing... can i translate what you said as it read to me? you wrote: "Not sure who their man is, but I'm certain we have targetted someone regardless of what they say, and there must be mutual interest." and "owners are strategically savvy" I read this as: I hope they know what they are at and god help us if they haven't really got someone lined up now they've sacked kenny. I might be wrong but i see an awful lot of just putting firm backing into FSG and i'm afraid that is more hope than evidence. i mean sure if you're talking about roman abramovich you could say. "i know he's not got a clue and will sack the manager but he ponies up and dough we want" etc... I just don't know about FSG and what they actually want to do cos in the real world the amount of money they seem to want to spend for the results they want just isn't on.
I don't think that you can knock FSG for spending big!! Sure, the net spend is much lower but that's due to receiving a ridiculous number for FT. We went and spent £35 on one player and £20 or so on 3 other players, with a circa £10m player and a couple of freebies thrown in for good measure (can't think of others).......Sorry, but your argument stops there for me, regardless of net spend. FSG have always said if the right player comes along they'll invest. I believe them. I still would of liked to see them keep kenny on for another year as I saw steps forward (albeit slower than I would of liked) but I don't know what goals were set at the beginning of the year. Perhaps this is blind faith, perhaps following Kenny would of been blind faith - I did both. Baaaa
I'm more inclined (want) to go along with Spearing’s translation of events past and future, hey, I’m a glass half full type of guy.. My interpretation/hope/wish is that FSG in the last few months made approaches/put feelers out to certain managers, get their feeling for the "Liverpool Project" (hate that term, we're not GSCE course work!), they've narrowed it down and made an approach, said manager says yes, they then invite Kenny over to discuss the season and tell him they've made an approach for another man for this job, but they'd love him to say in some sort of capacity, which is really a sort of take it or leave it scenario, Kenny comes back, thinks it over and believes that in the best interest of the club he should leave. New DoF and CEO come in, new manager is given time and funds and we challenge for the title in 3 to 4 years time, make it back into the champions league in a season or two.. Glass half full interpretation, FSG ain't got a clue and we'll take too long getting the management team in place, miss out on any decent transfer targets and wind up 8th/9th next year and start the search for manager #5
If those rumours are true, possibly part of those discussion with Cruyff and Txiki included their views on management ect (in fact if they have spoken to them they definitely would have spoken about it). Maybe they have acted from what they heard (add talks with Dein) lets face it, they do not have a vast footballing knowledge so speaking to 3rd parties with no connection to the club but with respected views in the game would hold more water than their own thoughts (considering they have sacked almost anyone they have already hired). We need to add some footballing brains to their business brains, I look forward to seeing what the plan is (but if they are being lead its rather worrying, if you were being interviewed for a possible DoF role or CEO position your hardly going to say 'stick to what your doing').
I fear Saurez's card may be marked too....everyone concerned with that event has gone. Let's hope i'm wrong eh!? FSG doing everything that Ferguson, the FA and The Sunday Supplement ****shafts wanted them to do. "Iron fist in a velvet glove" my arze. As soon as these spineless turds got spooked by the "We'll contaminate the worldwide brand if you don't do as we tell you" theats the writing was on the wall for all including Kenny, Suarez and probably Glen Johnson too. "They're quick to judge by results"... WHERE'S OUR FUKKING NEW STADIUM THEN???!!!
Call it hope if you like, I'm not opposed to that word. But I feel in times like this, it's the best way to approach it. Our owners are clearly not stupid, nieve perhaps, but not stupid. No one with any brains would sack pretty much the entire backing staff without a solid plan and names in mind. I could be completely wrong, but I hope I'm not! Just got a sneaky feeling that they genuinely have things lined up, particularly with Ayre's intervew when he talks about the Liverpool way, there's no way they'd tell us if someone was lined up or not. It would just happen. I'm expecting (hoping) we'll having a manager/DoF/CEO or 2/3 of those positions filled by the end of the week.
no could not call them stupid if they make the money they do.... one might call the sheik or RA stupid as they are losing vast sums doing what they are doing.... i guess it would be hope that the plan you allude to is one that has as its objective returning lfc to the top. I fear said plan is one to maximize returns while minimizing outlay. In that context increasing revenue is what they are after not really long term team competitveness. That is the fear. What i would say is I'd be extremely surprised to here that any of those positions are filled within this month. I kind of take them at face value when they say there is no shortlist. I expect honestly. as the Liverpool way is not just doing things privately but also doing things honestly so when they say there's no shortlist i would dearly hope thats the truth as lying is worse than incompetence in my eyes. I'd hope that by the end of june appointments are made before preseason starts. I just can't see it by the end of may.
I think that's a legitimate fear, but I considered a while ago that Kenny hadn't been sufficiently backed because he was never seen as the long term choice. That's still something I believe now he's been fired. I guess none of us actually know until we see them show their hand in the forthcoming weeks and months though. If there was ever a time for them to show us what kind of owners they are and will be, now is that time. Also, end of May has to be a deadline of sorts to pick a new manager. Even not considering the club and their wishes about getting it sorted fast, surely any new manager would want to be able to start his project at the start of the transfer window, before the Euros kick into full flow and before other players start moving elsewhere.
