Wow. Really can't believe what I'm hearing on this.

Simon Clegg is making lots of points as to why going for a Category Two youth set up may be best for the club. And it's all based on 'cost'.

“I’ve done a huge analysis in terms of how much money has been generated by the Academy over the years.

“You only need to throw a Connor Wickham, a Titus Bramble or a Kieron Dyer every few years. It’s quite interesting to look at those figures.”

I'll tell you what Clegg... first of all Kieron Dyer barely came through the academy. He played for local boys sides and didn't join Ipswich until he was 16 and he pretty much went straight into the first team. instead of adding up whether a £1.5m investment will return you a £6m player every four years, consider pride and consider what it takes to earn silverware and consider that with a top class academy we might actually spit out three or four top class young players every year or two! I wonder if this was the sort of brilliant analysis that has gone into all the decision making over the last couple of years?

I have to agree with what Superman says, Warky. if we dont show up and support a losing team whatever the reasons for a bad run - and this a mighty bad run, almost dare I say it, hysterical! - then, can we really call ourselves loyal fans? No criticsm meant, but I for one, as many others last Saturday, turned up, enjoyed the game, entertaining footie, Town should have won...but luck, yes, bad luck played agin us. And Id rove the odd 180 miles back feeling absurdly quite happy! And, no, I was not on anything! As you know, I have been turning up as best I can for 50 years now, and, if...its a big if, if we do get a win, any win, i think we can get it together agin and go on a run. Fans staying away for whatever reason, sacking PJ now, storming the corporate ramparts to get rid off the Executives just wont happen in the real world...stick with it mate, and next time I am up, share a (consoling/celebrating) drink!

Cant add anything to whats already been said, though what i will say is that

we, as fans, need to make our voices heard to save our club. As the quote goes 'for evil to succeed the good men must only fail to act' :)

it would be a travesty for our club if our well renowned academy becomes a second class one where our exciting young players can be poached by others. as you have said JWM, that i the foundation that our great club has always been built upon. if we are prepared to pay over the odds for players who our past it and not pay the money to keep our academy as one of the best in the country then we will have a real problem on our hands. surely the investment into a grade 1 academy makes perfect sense as it will enable us to keep producing good young english players which we can either benefit from ourselves (if we get up into the prem over the next few years) or we can profit from (if we are still languishing in the championship or even worse)
