    Just because it follows a similar format, it doesn’t make it comparable in terms of prestige.

    It’s like saying the FA cup is on a par with the FA vase.

    Not pedantry. My argument consistently depends on there being two seperate league competitions, one of which is the top division and the other of which is for the lesser clubs. Looking back in history to a point where the structure was completely different is pointless.

    That’s because the FA vase is significantly less prestigious than the FA cup. The Europa league doesn’t have that gulf compared to the champions league.

    You were trying to equate competition formats with their relative prestige and the equation doesn’t stack up.

    It's just a matter of opinion though. I would say that getting to the 5th round of the FA Cup was a bigger achievement than winning the FA Trophy because you would have to beat much better teams. CL v EL is a bit closer but a CL quarter finalist is likely to be better than an EL winner.

    It is down to opinion, in the CL this year you had teams like Hoffenheim, Plenz, Young Boys and Crvena Zvezda. Yet in the EL we beat teams like Napoli and Valencia. And beat them both twice in high pressure games. Most people would agree that Napoli and Valencia are better teams than those CL teams mentioned above.
