Last few days Burnsy has mentioned him as one to look out for.He has even worked with a couple of our players.http://www.newsandstar.co.uk/carlisle-united/latest/1.952323
I wouldnt be dissapointed like I would be with some of the names but I also wont be getting excited if he is the new manager
Have to agree, we are past giving the Phil Parkinsons of this world a punt. We have the infrastructure and the kudos to now attract proven managers and there are quality managers out there not currently at clubs. If we appoint Abbott I for one will see that as a clear indication of the lack of ambition of our owners. ...........and shouldn't this be merged with the other Greg Abbott thread?
If the Allams are saying that we could have had a 40k a week striker in January then surely we could take a punt on bringing in an experienced manager costing a bit rather than the suggestion of a manager who will work off a shoestring. Can't really have it both ways.
None of which came to their clubs as managers from clubs in the lower leagues, which was the point I was making.
It's a fair point well made. Rodgers career was lower than Brown's after he was sacked by Reading and Swansea took a real unfancied punt.
But is proven necessarily a good thing? I mean, McCarthy is proven. Proven at playing ugly football and giving people like Karl Henry licence to go and break legs. He's also just been sacked from Wolves for being worse than PB was in the PL but with a much better side available to him. The very reason we're searching for a manager is bthat the previous one felt the owners lacked ambition. I don't think we need to look at the next appointment to confirm that. Also, what if Abbott is the best that wants to come here? I can't see McCarthy coming and I think other big names might be unlikely under the circumstances.
Don't agree. Billy Davies, Phil Brown and Gary Megson would all cut off their testicles to manage Hull City. Our team managed to finish 8th last season ANY manager out of work who has Championship experience or below will fancy their chances at winning the jackpot. Don't forget if they nudged City just that little bit further they could write their own salary cheque. To suggest Abbott would be the best that would be willing to come here is, frankly, laughable.
