Curran and Dawson - 8 overs for 48 runs between them. Rashid and Archer - 84 from their 7 overs. Not good enough from either of them.

Wood finally nails a yorker.
That was my complaint about Hampshire's death bowling last year, it pretty much cost us 2 titles. I once asked Chris Wood, in passing, why seam bowlers don't bowl them more in T20 and he basically said words to the effect of "Because it's the most difficult one to bowl and it you get it wrong you get punished / small margin of error..." etc. I felt like saying "Well get in the nets and practise them more then!"

I'm not stupid enough to think that a bowler will be able to execute it every time or that it automatically means that a boundary won't be scored, but it's the best bet, by far, in the death overs. Even a low full toss isn't that easy to get away, especially with long-off and long-on both back on the fence.

Yes, banging the ball into the pitch can work on occasion but, if the batter does read it, even to a small extent, then it gives them a free swing of the bat, room to have a swish and they can obviously get under the ball to hit it, potentially, for a six. The worst a well-executed yorker will go for is a streaky 4 off an inside edge or something, which is still better than getting hammered over mid-wicket for 6.

Just my thoughts!!

Australia captain Mitchell Marsh was ruled out of their opening T20 World Cup game against Ireland after suffering "testicular bleeding", with Steve Smith called up as cover.
The 34-year-old was struck in the groin area while receiving throw downs during a training session in Colombo on Sunday.
Cricket Australia (CA) said Marsh is "experiencing ongoing pain and discomfort", which is "restricting his movement".
"Scans have confirmed internal testicular bleeding, and he will require a period of rest and rehabilitation," said a CA statement.
"His return to play will be guided by symptom resolution and medical advice."
T20 World Cup: Australia v Ireland - live coverage
All-rounder Marsh was appointed Australia's T20 captain April 2024.
He has scored 2,102 runs in 78 T20 internationals for Australia at an average of 32.33 and taken 17 wickets.
Travis Head stood in as captain for the Group B fixture against Ireland in Marsh's absence.
Smith missed out on Australia's squad for the World Cup despite impressive form in the Big Bash League.
The 36-year-old batter will now travel to to Australia as cover should Marsh not be fit enough to feature in the remainder of the tournament.
Smith has scored 1,094 runs in 55 T20 innings for the Aussies at an average of 24.86, but last played a match in the format for Australia since February 2024.
Australia face Zimbabwe at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Sri Lanka's capital on Friday.
