Interesting that Kyle and Mo are playing today.

Suggests that they could be part of our 50 over campaign this year.

Whether Barker and/or Wood will be, remains to be seen (Wood hasn't played 50 over cricket for four years, and I think Barker only semi-reluctantly agreed to come out of white ball retirement last season - hence uncertainty over both). But even if they will be part of it, I can understand them not playing in today's match. They're both experienced enough, and in need to have their bodies managed carefully enough, to not need to play against Dorset. And therefore I wouldn't read anything into their absence today - I don't think it tells us either way as to whether they'll be a part of our campaign. But I do think we can read something into Kyle and Mo playing.

We surely have academy bowlers (beyond Jack and Kelly) who we could have turned to if it was simply a matter of needing to fill 11 places today. Which suggests to me that there's more to it than that - ie Kyle and Mo are in our thinking to play. Indeed, in Mo's case I believe he usually goes back home to Pakistan when he has gaps in his Hampshire schedule, so for him to still be around I think is very meaningful (Kyle is different, because he he lives locally with his partner and baby).

I don't know when Orr is meant to be back, but there would be a massive difference between a team which looks something like:

Orr, Middleton, Gubbins, Prest, Brown, Albert, Barker, Wood, Abbott, Wheal, Abbas

as compared to one which something like:

Middleton, Gubbins, Prest, Brown, Albert, Organ, Eckland, Jack, Kelly, Wheal, Academy bowler

I'd seriously fancy our chances with that first team, I suspect that Jack and Organ will play though.

Wood has been called-up to the 100 as a late replacement (Birmingham). So we might never find out if his body is able to still play 50 over cricket.
