I always thought it was crazy that Marnus wasn't originally in Aus' plans. The runs he got in the ODI series vs SA prior to them confirming their squad basically forced them into selecting him.

He might not be a Klaasen or a Maxwell, but he's far more consistent than the likes of Green, Stoinis and David.

Potentially good news for Hampshire... It's being strongly rumoured that Ali Orr is coming to us from Sussex, finally a decent opening bat option to go with Middleton. He can also keep a bit as well. We might well have been interested in Haines (Sussex) as well, but I think he'll be staying put (I think he only recently signed a new contract with them anyway).
This has been confirmed. Long term contract.

Very happy with that signing.

Yes he is somewhat untested at the top end of county cricket - a lot of his runs have come in D2 or the weakened 50 over competition. But that isn't his fault; he can only score against the bowlers he faces. I don't know if he'll go straight into our t20 team because he is a little bit raw in that format. But at the very least, I expect him to play in both the other formats. Hopefully he'll be here for many years.

Scott Currie has signed a season-long loan deal with Leics for 2024. Not that surprising, given that he is constantly on the fringes of our teams, but it would be a shame to lose him permanently. He may turn out to be another Tom Scriven, coming on in leaps and bounds having been given the chance to play regularly (albeit at a generally lower level).

I don't suppose we'll sign anyone else ahead of next season, but perhaps there's room now for another more experienced seamer, or a bowling all-rounder? Poach Toby Roland-Jones from cash-strapped Middlesex, just putting a random name or thought out there!

Hants away to Durham to start next season. Which will please Abbas, Barker and Abbott. Not so much the batsmen.

Our games against Surrey will be done by the end of May. And crucially we don't have to go to Chelmsford in the CC. Ending the season against Kent, Worcs and Somerset is kind on paper.

There's rumours that another main player at Sussex is going to be on the move soon and Haines would probably be the leading candidate. It would seem a bit greedy to get both of them at the Bowl, but I wouldn't say no. Just wishful thinking though.

So the four D1 fixtures which we don't have next season are Notts (h), Essex (a), Worcs (a), Somerset (h).

No trip to Chelmsford should make our lives easier (I know we managed to win there this year, but that was mainly because Essex had a gamble on forcing a result). But the other three matches are all annoying to miss.

At least it's now been confirmed that Currie will be staying with us after the Leics loan, not immediately joining them full time as seemed apparent initially. Will leave us short in the one-day cup though.
