Six off the last ball for Kent means that second place is now very close for us. Yorks would have to beat us quite heavily to even have a chance of overtaking us.

Shan Masood is leaving Derbyshire after getting a better offer from a rival, as yet unnamed, county. I wonder if we might be saying "Thanks but we won't be needing you next year" to Abbas and trying to bolster our top order instead? Probably not but would be an option and then use Wheal or another new signing more regularly as another bowler.

Yorkshire apparently. They can also offer him the captaincy.

SA win by an innings and 12 runs

Yestertday was my second visit to Lord's this summer and after attending the only day'splay in the first New Zealand test when nothing happened, I was hoping for a bit more excitement. Unfortunately, this was not the kind ofexcitement I was hoping for. I think Lord's is a terrific venue and the welcome is far better than anything I have encountered in football. Shame the day was over so quickly.

Hopefully the cricket will be more impressive at Hampshire tomorrow.

I really don't understand why we moved Brown up to open. He's miles away from being a white ball opener. And he's not a youngster who can benefit from the exposure.

I get that Donald wasn't performing and so a change was maybe required. But it shouldn't have been to go to Brown. I said before the first game that I'd have tried Organ.

As far as I can tell, heading into the final round:

A1: Almost certain to be the winner of Sussex v Middlesex (winner takes all clash) - but a tiny chance it could be Leicester
A2: Very likely to be Leicester or Warks - but in theory could be Notts or the loser of Sussex v Middlesex
A3: Very likely to be Leicester or Warks or Notts - but in theory could be Gloucs or the loser of Sussex v Middlesex

B1: Hants or Lancs
B2: Hants or Lancs
B3: Yorks if they beat us. Yorks or Kent or Glamorgan if we beat Yorks.

I thought that yesterday was hugely entertaining. At one point in the Essex innings it looked like it would be a short game before the likely of the win seemed to reverse. I was quite impressed by Felix Organ, both as a bowler and batter. Amazing to think hiw young this Hamoshire sequad is. Comparisons with Saints ?

Does anyone from this board meet up at the ground for a drink ? Seem to be a few regulars from this board who also go to the cricket.
