I hope that Abbott is in the lineup tomorrow night. For Holland preferably. I see an academy player is in the squad - Tom Prest. Don't know anything about him.
Just looked him up. Batsman who can bowl a bit of spin. Hit a triple century for the second XI against Sussex 2nd XI in May.

Warner and Stoinis withdraw from The Hundred, Southern Brave can sign replacements.

For the second time in Warner's case. I'm not having a go at him, it's completely understandable. But when someone has form, why burn yourself again? I never agreed with us picking him a second time, given how valuable his slot is. The one benefit is that luckily no-one else signed De Kock in the draft (who was clearly the choice for me), so hopefully we can put right our mistake this time.

If CDG does well in the Blast, I could see him replacing Stoinis. (Or as a temporary replacement for Russell, who is likely to miss the first half of the competition.)

Buttleman scored a century against us for the 2nds this week. The match where I highlighted Fuller and Crane being taken part.

But like us though, Essex looks desperately short of a top order batsman.

I'm all for moving Northeast away from no.3. I'm not sure about moving him out of the team altogether.

I like a safe pair of hands in the middle order, say between overs 9 and 15.

The problem with the likes of Holland, McManus and Weatherley is that because they're neither clean power-hitters, nor great timers/placers off the ball, they try and smash the leather of the ball in lame attempts to get boundaries. Every now and then it works, but most of the time it just means that they miss out on being able to run 2s, because the ball is getting to the out-fielders too quickly.

Basically, they're shooting themselves in the foot.
