Original ODI squad: Eoin Morgan (Middlesex, captain), Moeen Ali (Worcestershire), Jonathan Bairstow (Yorkshire), Tom Banton (Somerset), Sam Billings (Kent), Sam Curran (Surrey), Tom Curran (Surrey), Liam Dawson (Hampshire), George Garton (Sussex), Liam Livingstone (Lancashire), Adil Rashid (Yorkshire), Joe Root (Yorkshire), Jason Roy (Surrey), David Willey (Yorkshire), Chris Woakes (Warwickshire), Mark Wood (Durham). All have to self-isolate.
Stokes will captain the new ODI squad. So I would think those like Vince with previous England experience will be a certainty in the new squad. Crane may get a big opportunity here - he's impressed in T20's for England in the past but I don't think he's played any one day stuff.
Fortunately we don't really need Vince in the Surrey game now and Crane isn't playing so any disruption for us will be minimal. Can't say the same for other counties though!
I wonder if Malan will also find himself needing to isolate too. He was originally in the ODI squad (for SL) before being replaced by Banton. But I don't know exactly when he left the group last week. The matches v Pakistan are on Thursday, Saturday and Tuesday. So whilst the one round of t20 matches on Friday night, plus potentially the back-end of this current round of CC matches are both impacted, I would suggest the biggest impact will be the final round of CC matches next week. After all, it's that round which will confirm who makes it into division one. Sadly for us, I'm not sure if any of Gloucs' current red ball XI would make it. Typical luck for Dawson. He'd have been a shoe-in to finally play if he wasn't already in the squad. Instead, someone like Critchley might now have a chance to pull on the shirt and potentially jump ahead of him in the pecking order. Crane might get called up, but I suspect that Parkinson is more likely (although they might go with both). With Vince, I think it depends whether the selectors want to give him another chance. If so, then I'm certain he'd be called up. But they might have made the decision after the Ireland ODI series last year to move on from him now. Hales will be an interesting one. Will the selectors finally choose to go back there? It's essentially now or never. (I'm not saying whether it's right or wrong, by the way. Just making the point.) One thing in his favour is the minimal disruption to the county circuit it would cause, given that he doesn't play red ball cricket.
I wonder if we can get Surrey to agree that Crane would definitely be a like-for-like replacement? He's a no.5 in the making...
Our side for the next two days is looking very similar to what our 50 over side will be. If CDG does stay around, the only change might be Currie or Fuller for Barker. If not, then both come in. A six man attack of Abbott, Wheal, Holland, Organ and two from Currie, Fuller and CDG.
Sorry Hants fans, but Middlesex are not doing you any favours at the moment in their innings. You will just have to hope Surrey have two of their awful spells in their current and next innings providing the weather clears.
Leicestershire doing a good job against Somerset. If they can force a draw there it will make for an interesting last round.
Bit of a long shot but does anybody have a couple of T20 passports that they can't use for the double-header at the Ageas next Friday (the 16th)...?? I bought 2 tickets for the game but these have just been cancelled as before the 19th they can only let members and passport holders in, not individual ticket holders. Happy to pay the going rate if anybody can help
You'll surely need photo ID matching the name of the ticket as it will still be under covid restrictions surely? I'm in the same boat as you but given Hants are out anyway I'm not too fussed TBH!
No they aren't checking ID. The number of premium/executive members, plus passport holders, plus guests is below the total permitted capacity. Hence I guess why they're more relaxed. And even more so when you consider that not all premium/executive members will turn up each game.
Yeh, more about having a day out with a few mates that I haven't seen for a while. They all have passports so can still go. It's just annoying as they have full crowds at Wimbledon now and 60,000 at Wembley but you can't get a full crowd in at the Ageas which is as close to an open air stadium as you can get...!!
Because of our awful head-to-head with Somerset, our dream scenario would be wins for us and Gloucs, but not for Somerset. Then with us beating Gloucs, and Surrey beating Somerset - but with Gloucs picking up sufficiently more bonus points than Somerset, to finish ahead of them. It's very unlikely to happen - partly because rain could deny us tomorrow, but mainly because I think Gloucs would need five more bonus points than Somerset next week (which is very difficult to do in defeat) - but it could happen.
