This will be exactly what Vince wanted from dropping himself down to no.3. Have these two get off to a flyer, whilst also getting rid of any shine on the ball. Now when he does come in, he can just settle in without the pressure of his form.

Durham did chase down 203 in their last game here, vs Northants, with nine wickets and 3.3 over to spare.

So they could have probably got 240 in that game if they'd needed to.

As I said the other day, deciding on that second overseas player for finals day if we get there won't be easy.

I would have been tempted to promote Cartwright, simply because of how excellently he starts against spin. But obviously I'm not sad to see JV walking to the crease!
