TBH a no result wouldn't be a bad result tonight, especially with losing the toss. I wouldn't fancy our chances in a 5 over shootout.

From this position, I think I agree about preferring a no result over a 5 over shoot-out. It would favour Middlesex hugely.

But at some point cricket does need to wake up and allow matches to be reduced from the start when heavy rain is forecast. There was never any realistic chance of us getting our full 20 overs of batting.

I'm assuming a wet ball has resulted in Mills bowling two high full-tosses and duly being removed from Sussex's bowling innings after less than one over. In theory that should be very helpful for Essex. But I'm guessing the rain might come back there at some point, and potentially no-result the match anyway.

Play to resume at 9pm. Assuming it doesn't rain again of course.

It might not rain again between now and the resumption. But I wouldn't be surprised if it rains again before the match finishes.

11 overs per side. TBH I'd retire Albert and send out Brevis.

It's right on the line of whether I'd do it or not.

If we were coming out to bat for another one to five overs, then sending out Brevis would be a total no brainer. And equally, if it was another 10 overs or more, I'd be sticking with Albert.

But seven overs of batting...I can accept either decision. I think if I had to make the decision, I'd stick with Albert but tell him to just go for it.

I'd be very careful about throwing the ball to Turner. Because whilst he will often bowl good overs, he does have that one horror over in him. And in a 6 over chase, one horror over could be match-defining.

If we even get to the 5 over mark, that is...
