The key statistics from England's historic victory
    • England became the first visiting team to score 400+ in the third innings against India having been the last team to achieve the feat when they made 406 in Ahmedabad in November 2012.
    • India lost a home Test match in which they had a first-innings lead of 100 runs or more for the first time in 106 matches having won (70) or drawn (35) all of their previous 105 games on their own turf.
    • England have now won 15 Tests in India, the most by a visiting team, going past Australia & West Indies' tally of 14.
    • India's first-innings lead of 190 was the second biggest they have had where they have gone on to lose the Test. Only the 192-run lead they had against Sri Lanka at Galle in August 2015 was bigger.
    • Tom Hartley is the 55th English player to take a five-wicket haul on Test debut and only the sixth player to take a seven-wicket haul on debut. The last English player to take a seven-wicket haul on debut was Dominic Cork v West Indies at Lord's in June 1995.

From the start of 2020 on, Joe Root has given up 1542 runs in 479.2 overs in Test cricket, while taking 41 wickets...he's averaging 37.6 with the ball, at an economy of 3.22. Jack Leach's Test career numbers are 34.4 and 3.02.

At this point he's not just a wild card you bring on for a couple overs when things aren't working, he's a legitimate part of the attack.

Now that it's finally been announced as only being for the first eight games, I guess we're still planning on getting Ellis back after the t20 WC. The final is on 29 June, whilst our 9th game is on 6th July. (Our 8th game is 21st June - followed by two four-day games - when the WC group stage won't have even finished yet.)

It would make sense for him to play in both of those two red ball games before he hands over to Ellis, because it means that Abbas (or Abbott) can pop back home for the entire t20 campaign.

Apparently it's only the third match in the past decade that he's been as high as no.10.

England lose the second test but far from a disaster. 292 is a pretty good 4th innings score but 399 was always a huge ask. Issue now is that Kohli will be back for the rest of the series.

Is it good news or bas news for India that Kohli is out for the series? If we recall their last meeting with Oz downunder, they won the series without him after being hammered in the first test with him. Great opportunity for someone to step up to the plate, and less need to widen the dressing-room door.
