Wow, Yorkshire deducted 48 points from this years CC and fined £400,000 (although 3/4 of that is suspended for 2 years) over the Rafiq racism scandal. No chance of them getting promoted this season now.
I wonder if the BBC article has a mistake on there as it also says they're being deducted points for this season's Blast, which doesn't make much sense. Perhaps the deductions will apply to the 2024 season?
Essex have signed Jordan Cox from Kent, dynamic batsman who keeps a bit as well. I do hope Hampshire are trying to sign some of these players as well, perhaps he turned us down, one just doesn't know. We all know the batting needs strengthening!
No, further reading of Yorkshire's response does indicate that both deductions apply to this season. Still seems odd to me to deduct points for a competition that's already finished, what if they had actually won it?!
Just a thought: Do this season's points/finishing positions have any bearing on the final payouts, or on any 'seeding' for next year's competitions? In other words, does a points deduction this year equate to a decrease in Yorkshire's finances, this year, or next?
