To a degree. But it's for the authorities to wake up and finally realise the DL isn't suitable for t20 cricket. It's just so incredibly unfair on the side who bats first - everyone seems to accept that, and yet nothing is done. If DL was more fit for the purpose, the weather would have had less of an impact. Hence why the toss was so important. Well done to Essex. It's not their fault that DL isn't suitable. All they could do is chase down the target which was set, and they did that.
You're probably going to need to go big. If you go big enough (which we didn't with 170), then the disadvantage of batting first can be overcome. But even just a decent score (which I think 170 is) won't balance it out. Fingers crossed though the rain doesn't come back. Hope you win.
Feels weird seeing Surrey only use five bowlers. I've often thought that their usual strategy (of some years now) of using seven or eight different bowlers is a big reason why they consistently fail to live up to expectations. With little or no structure or methodology to their bowling choices - instead, it's more akin to drawing names out of hat for each over - it makes it much harder to win. But today it's been much better.
It's also weird to think that we're going to finish, by quite some distance, with the highest SF score of all four teams. Hey ho.
I'd have probably bowled Overton and Henry straight through (or at least one of them). Best opening bowling partnership in the competition, by some distance.
Although Ben Green is the most successful T20 bowler this season, and gets a couple in his first 2 overs, and nearly a third!
And I'd put a lot of down down to the good work of Overton and Henry. The pressure that they put on the opposition can cause the remaining batters to then bat recklessly/desperately against Green, in an attempt to get back into the game. I'm not saying that Green is a poor bowler. But he's clearly not the best bowler in the entire competition. Overton catches Overton.
Great job. In the same way that Essex should be dropping Beard in favour of an extra batter, so should Somerset be dropping Bashir. Batting depth is invaluable.
