Berg has his surgery tomorrow, so we should hopefully get a better idea shortly of how long he'll be out for. Talk at the moment is 12 weeks, which would be such a massive blow given how important he was for us last season.

10 weeks out for Berg. One game out for Jimmy. Topley available for next week.

Looks like Carberry, Alsop, Dawson, Vince, Smith, Wheater, Ervine, McLaren, Fidel, Topley and then one of Tomlinson, Wheal, Wood and Crane for our opening game. I'd be surprised if it's Crane, given that we're in April and it sounds like we're slightly concerned about playing Topley as one of just three main seamers due to him not playing red ball cricket for some time (and having had injury issues in the past). But then again, Crane has had a good pre-season.

I'd play Crane or Wheal.

Warks the first of hopefully 8 sides this season to fall into the trap of seeing some green on our wicket, and deciding to invoke the new rule to discard the toss and bowl first.

There's been a decent handful of times in recent years where sides have won the toss down here, and wrongly chosen the bowl. The grass doesn't seem to assist the seamers here at all. It generally remains the batting paradise that it usually is. There's a reason why you never see us choose to bowl first here.

(Famous last words?...)

As I half expected, Tommo takes the final place in our XI.

Topley has now outscored five of our top seven.

We can only hope that he and Tommo can to the damage with their left arm swing that Barker has inflicted on us.

So Hants finish on 189/8. Well done Ryan McLaren. Excellent innings. Forecast is ****e tomorrow so a total washout is probable. Hants not crumbling to 100 all out or something like that means a draw is likely.

Oh brilliant. Topley injured his hand whilst batting yesterday, and is seeing a specialist today.

At least it was his right hand, not his left.

4pm restart. It's quite bright behind the clouds, so if they can shift a bit we might be able to get play until beyond 6pm.
