please log in to view this image Ex GWR 5600 class locomotive 6688 near Handsworth, 1960 On the former Great Western Railway main line between Birmingham and Wolverhampton. The train is probably a local trip working between various freight depots. The locomotive type was developed for use on coal trains in the South Wales valleys, but members of the class later found their way to other mainly industrial areas.

please log in to view this image Ex-GWR 0-6-2T 56xx class No 6692 is seen at the head of a Class K down freight to Hockley as it passes through the down through road on 12th August 1961. Built by Armstrong Whitworth in 1928 as part of an order for fifty locomotives (No 6650 to No 6699) the class remained in service until the final years of steam on the former GWR with the first withdrawals of the class occurring when four locomotives were withdrawn in May 1962, while the last engine in service was 6668 which survived until the last month of GWR steam in December 1965.

please log in to view this image British Rail Type 3 D6700 joined the museum’s collection in July 2001 after it was donated by the English, Welsh & Scottish Railway following its withdrawal from service, but will now feature on the Great Central Railway, based at Loughborough, under the new agreement.
Luftwaffe Model 10-6701 Oxygen Mask Manufactured by Auer in Berlin the 10-6701 was designed for use with the LkpN101 and other flying helmets modified for 2-point mask attachment. Due to its light weight construction and compact size it found favour amongst many fighter and fighter-bomber pilots. Many later examples were modified with an extra strap to aid stability and for use with helmets having 3-point attachment systems.
please log in to view this image 6703 was built for the Canadian Pacific Railway in November of 1950 for use as a switching locomotive and to pull short-haul freight trains. It is a first-generation diesel-electric locomotive that was part of the first engines that helped Canadian railways transition from steam engines to diesel in the late 1940s and early 1950s. 6703 is one of the last examples of the Canadian Pacific Railway’s SW8 class of locomotive that remains today.
please log in to view this image _ A potted history of No 6705... No 6705 is a Collett Brake Corridor Composite coach, built at Swindon in 1938. In the early 1960s, it was overhauled by Western Region and was shipped to America as part of a heritage railway collection based in Bellows Falls, Vermont. Years later, it ended up in Steamtown, the Erie Lackawanna Railroad Museum in Scranton, Pennsylvania where, in the harsh climate, it ended up in very poor conditon. Surplus to requirements in Pennsylvania, it came close to being scrapped,but was rescued in 2006 when Robin White organised transport to Halifax, Nova Scotia, from where it was shipped to Newport, along with nine class 66 locos bound for Britain. Moved to Crewe, the coach is currently being restored under contract by Colin Worrall, paid for by the WSR Steam Trust
