please log in to view this image 5044 - the only Class 24 to sail in a ship. An early photograph of D5044, date unknown, but presumably at Stratford judging by the types of locomotives surrounding it. The locomotive appears to be in 'as delivered' condition from Crewe, it has gained the yellow warning panel and a steam style shed plate attached to the cab front. Surprisingly the roof mounted boiler water tank filler cover is still in place.

please log in to view this image Steam Locomotive 5051 ‘Drysllwyn Castle’ was built at Swindon in May 1936. She was renamed ‘Earl Bathurst’ in August 1937 and carried that name for the rest of her GWR and BR life. Both names are regularly used on the locomotive at Didcot. Stationed almost exclusively at Landore (Swansea) depot, for working to London and the Midlands, she was rarely seen elsewhere.
