1N4148 signal diode

The 1N4148 is a standard silicon switching signal diode. It is one of the most popular and long-lived switching diodes because of its dependable specifications and low cost. Its name follows the JEDEC nomenclature. The 1N4148 is useful in switching applications up to about 100 MHz with a reverse-recovery time of no more than 4 ns.

Overview
As the most common mass-produced switching diode, the 1N4148 replaced the older 1N914. They differed mainly in their leakage current specification, however, today most manufacturers list common specifications. For example, Vishay lists the same leakage current for both parts:

  • 25 nA at -20 V, 25°C
  • 5 μA at -75 V, 25°C
  • 50 μA at -20 V, 150°C
Today manufacturers produce the 1N4148 and sell it as either part number. It was second-sourced by many manufacturers; Texas Instruments listed their version of the device in an October 1966 data sheet. These device types have an enduring popularity in low-current applications.

The JEDEC registered part numbers 1N4148 and 1N914 are diodes in an axial package. Diodes with similar properties are available in surface-mount packages.

The Stourbridge Survivor

Welcome to The 4150 Fund official website where you can keep up to date with the progress being made on the restoration of our very versatile Great Western locomotive for use on the Severn Valley Railway. 4150 has strong local connections, having entered service at Stourbridge Junction shed and will undoubtedly have run on much of what is now the Severn Valley Railway regularly calling at stations such as Kidderminster and Bewdley.

As well as finally coming home 4150 is also the last engine from Woodham Brother’s Barry scrapyard on the SVR yet to be fully restored, which means there is still an opportunity to be involved while history is in the making. Steam locomotive 4160 arrives at the South Devon Railway.

It is planned to join the home fleet once overhaul is complete.

The South Devon Railway has announced that GWR Large Prairie No. 4160 has arrived at Buckfastleigh today, 8th October 2020.

4160 is now under the custodianship of 5542 Ltd, who are using the South Devon Railway as their host.

The GWR locomotive’s overhaul will be completed at Buckfastleigh.

Once the locomotive’s overhaul is completed, 4160 will join the fleet of locomotives based at Buckfastleigh.

4160 was built in September 1948 and worked for 16 years with Great Western Railway, before being withdrawn in 1965. The locomotive was previously owned by 4160 Ltd, being based at the West Somerset Railway, but is now under the custodianship of the 5542 Ltd.
