IBM's 3033 "The Big One": IBM's 3033 Back when Jimmy Carter was the newly inaugurated President of the United States, the industry publication Datamation termed it "the big bombshell" of IBM's spring product announcements. THINK magazine later simply dubbed it -- "The Big One." The two publications were referring to the IBM 3033, the company's new top-of-the-line processor. When it was rolled out on March 25, 1977, the 3033 eclipsed the internal operating speed of the company's previous flagship -- the System/370 Model 168-3 -- by 1.6 to 1.8 times. Not only that, the 3033 featured as standard a high speed buffer storage double the size on the 168-3. Whereas the Model 168 had required 40 months to evolve from development to initial shipment, the 3033 was shipped to its first customer after only 28 months in development. In today's terms, the 3033 would be considered the equivalent of a very, very large PC. But 25 years ago, when the 3033 first took center stage, it offered large system users significant advancements and benefits in price/performance. It was almost twice as fast as its predecessor and it required less than half the space of a similarly configured 168-3. Complex scientific applications and commercial operations, such as online financial networks, could be handled more efficiently thanks to the 3033's higher capacity and increased computing power.
3034 Climenhaga 3034 Climenhaga, provisional designation A917 SE is a stony Florian asteroid and synchronous binary asteroid from the inner regions of the asteroid belt, approximately 7.8 kilometers in diameter. The asteroid was discovered on 24 September 1917 by German astronomer Max Wolf at Heidelberg Observatory in southwest Germany. It was later named after Canadian astrophysicist John Climenhaga. Its minor-planet moon has a period of nearly 19 hours. Climenhaga is a member of the Flora family, one of the largest families of stony asteroids in the main belt. It orbits the Sun in the innermain-belt at a distance of 1.8–2.8 AU once every 3 years and 6 months (1,294 days). Its orbit has an eccentricity of 0.21 and an inclination of 5° with respect to the ecliptic. The asteroid's observation arc begins with its official discovery observation at Heidelberg, as no precoveries were taken, and no prior identifications were made.

Principal Investigator: Ms Kathryn Bradbury Department: Cancer Epidemiology Unit Institution: University of Oxford Institution: University of Oxford, Cancer Epidemiology Unit Richard Doll Building Rooesevelt Drive Oxford, OX3 7LF Tags: 3037, biomarkers, cancer, diet, nutrition Summary: While there are many hypotheses about the effects of diet on the risk of developing cancer and other diseases, understanding of the health effects of diet is far from complete. We propose to develop a research programme on diet in UK Biobank. In phase 1 we will use data from the 24-hour recall to estimate nutrient intakes. We will also estimate intakes of key foods and nutrients from the dietary touch screen questions. The 24-hour recall will be used to calibrate these estimated intakes in order to produce more refined estimates of nutrient and food intakes for the whole cohort. These new calibrated estimates for the whole cohort will be returned to UK Biobank. In phase 2 we will compare these new calibrated dietary estimates with health characteristics at recruitment, such as body fatness and blood pressure. In phase 3 we will compare diet with the concentrations of serum or plasma biomarkers for all participants in UK Biobank. In phase 4, in the first instance, when data are available for cancer incidence, we will examine the associations of dietary components with the risk of cancers of the colo-rectum, breast and prostate when at least 2,000 incident cases of these cancers have accrued.

User-friendly operation provides precise easy to read altimeter, variometer, chronometric and temperature data with virtually no interaction by the pilot. Envelope temperature is measured with the TT34 remote pyrometer, transmitted wirelessly and clearly displayed on the 3040. This greatly increases pilot safety and convenience. Temperature alarms alert the pilot when the balloon’s max-continuous and never-exceed temperatures have been exceeded. The 3040 is compact and very rugged. Intelligent automatic shut-off and dual batteries should virtually eliminate dead battery in flight. please log in to view this image

'I'd like to die on my feet in the year 3047' LAST year, after escaping from the luxury La Catedral prison outside Medellin, Pablo Escobar agreed to answer, in writing, a list of questions from Colombian journalists. There were 127 questions in all and the cocaine baron's responses covered 23 typewritten pages, each one authenticated by his thumbprint. The following are highlights of the 'interview'. How do you explain that in prison you had private telephone lines, fax, computers, radio telephones and other sophisticated communications systems? There were 15 prisoners and I can assure you I was the one who used the telephones least. And for the 15 prisoners, we only had three computers. In reality, there were only two mobile telephones that prison officials didn't know about. Do you accept and feel that you are a mafioso? Does it bother you to be called that? The media have called me that thousands upon thousands of times. If it bothered me, I'd already be maniacal. What is it that annoys you most? Hypocrisy and lies.
