The same is true across German football & they're a rising force in Europe (no pun intended) so it totally negates your point about English clubs being unable to keep prices sensible as it would somehow "hamstring them in Europe". The inflation in English football is flowing straight into the pockets of average players & their greedy agents, which makes it worse. It's an unacceptable situation that the game needs to address, no football fan should be defending it imo.
Dunno about rising force in Europe. Outside Bayern and Dortmund, what have German sides done in Europe recently? Barring Schalke getting utterly creamed by Utd's second string a couple of seasons back I can't remember any other German side having a great impact in Europe. And Dortmund have had one good season in Europe, at the cost of a bang average showing in the Bundesliga. It remains to be seen if they can maintain themselves as a rising force with all their best players having their heads turned. They were in a CL group with Arsenal and Marseille two years ago and finished last. Oh, and I'm not defending the situation at all, I'm pointing out that's just how it is. The situation isn't going to change by people pointing at Germany and saying that "the game" needs to address the cost of matches. The situation will only change if fans start boycotting matches en masse in protest at the prices. Until the clubs are hurt in their pockets, they aren't going to listen to any sort of fan protest.
