Every morning when she prepares the fresh fruit to go on my muesli the very lovely Mrs Godders puts the fruit scraps out on the grass for the blackbirds to enjoy. Unfortunately the local Killer Cats now know this and congregate ready to pounce so she has stopped doing this. This murderous evil eyed little devil however continues to sit there in hope but I am pleased to see that its owners have fitted a bell to its neck. Personally I think the best thing to do with a cat's neck is to wring it. I was put off cats as pets when my mate said that you should never forget that if you were six inches tall your pet cat wouldn't bat an eyelid as it killed you.
Cats don't come in my garden much because I have regular visits from a cockapoo on a mission....to catch cats and seagulls. Last week he caught a cat and was so surprised (luckily for both him and the cat) he let it go. Bertie dreams of catching seagulls....he watches them as they fly over and dreams....he's tried jumping but so far no luck
It'll have been scoffing ants Fran, I think it's what they mostly eat. We see them fairly often on our lawn
Hope he got lots of the little bastards. I was happily dead-heading my roses when I was attacked by a biblical swarm of ants....they were chomping at my feet like they were made of sugar (by the way, they're not).
I have a big ginger bastard of a cat which sits under the decking or in the bushes and tries (sometimes successfully ) to catch the goldfinches which come to the feeder. I don't advocate hurting anything, but I've slung a few rocks at it (missed of course) and wish there was something I could do to keep the bugger out of the garden. Clearly it's owners don't care because it doesn't have a bell or even a collar. I've tried sprinkling pepper around the hole it goes through under the fence, but it just goes over the fence now ........ grrrr ............
Our Neighbour has 3 cats (3 dogs and 2 rabbits as well...) but even though my two dogs are only little it is rare for one of them to risk our garden. Just once I let my two out for a pee at about 5:30am and all of a sudden they homed in like a pack of wolves on the hot tub where a poor cat was sleeping. Luckily for them they couldn’t quite jump on the lid. I think the cat would have murdered them as it is twice the size of them...
Went down the road to Wells today, and walked around the Bishop’s Palace. Absolutely beautiful day, made more so by the excellent pub lunch at the City Arms. Last day of Eat Out to Help Out today!
My folks live in Wells, Nice little place. I think they've trained another Swan to ring the bell in the moat now after the old one died. B Palace staff that is, not my parents
I had a too brief stop in Wells recently.....would love to go again, but not the easiest place to get to (if you don't drive on the mainland). It involves a train to Bristol I think and then a bus. I saw it featured on an antiques programme....looks fantastic. P.s. And it has running water down the main street from one of the wells which gives the place its name. Looks like a pipe's burst, but no, it's all natural.
Fran, go to Bath Spa on the train, and then a 173 bus direct to Wells. The bus goes through Chilcompton, so we’ll hang the bunting out!
We finally made it to St Ives yesterday, for our holiday postponed from May. Queued for 20 minutes for a table for a drink at a bar in the Wharf, then queued again for half an hour for fish and chips. Today we visited Tesco’s for provisions, got out of town to Zennor and the Tinners Arms was on fine form. This sign pointing the way to Bamaluz Beach (between the Harbour Beach and Porthgwidden for those who know St Ives) needs some explanation. Any ideas?

My garden got visited by what looks to me like a "Russian hamster" and a couple of its mates. For all you animal lovers out there, I am going to shoot the little bastards till they stop coming. New gun coming next week.
