My question is perfectly sensible because the system as it stands (not as you would like it to be) has allowed Pitchfork his freedom, so he is, or shortly will be, out there somewhere with his new identity. I have a seven-year-old granddaughter who stays with us on a regular basis. I wouldn’t want him anywhere near us. Would you? is my question to you. And Yes, in answer to your question, I believe that the death penalty should be an option open to the judiciary. And strangely enough, the older I get, the more convinced I am of that. In my view, anyone who unlawfully takes the life of another should know that the possibility of them forfeiting their own life exists. I really don't see why the likes of Fred and Rose West, Robert Black, Dennis Neilson, Ian Huntley, etc., should be looked after by the tax payer for the rest of their natural lives, or indeed, have the possibility of parole extended to them at some stage in the future. I know that these are extreme examples, but that is why I believe the death penalty should be an option. And yes, I am aware that some are already deceased!
History is littered with wrongful convictions, it’s too late to bring them back.which is why it was outlawed. We must learn the lessons of history. It also reflects badly IMO on our society, we have moved beyond capital punishment. As long as they are kept locked up, and yes using tax payers money to do so is a price worth paying. Of course it’s not right if they are released, but that’s something we need to deal with, but it’s a different debate from whether capital punishment should be legalised. edit You still haven’t answers my question about whether you’d still be in favour if you or a member of your family was wrongly convicted and was facing the death penalty
And here is a genuine answer, in my example of Pitchfork he was 100% guilty of raping and killing 2 teenagers and our piss weak criminal injustice system is incapable of even keeping him in prison for life FFS, the copper who killed Sarah Everard has pleaded guilty, I am in favour in cases such as that the person can be hanged. I have answered your question, answer mine, would you be happy if Pitchfork lived close to where you live?
I did answer it, no I wouldn’t, I don’t think it’s either , or. As you pointed out we need better sentencing so they don’t get and therefore don’t live next to anyone. Whatever the question I don’t believe capital punishment is the answer, better justice system yes, better sentencing absolutely.
