So they must therefore be all wrong, or at least the ones you've decided are wrong. Why do we mess about with a legal system anyway.

1 or 1 million what difference does it make to the simple point i was making? It's not an infallible decision making process, far from it.

Well I cant find recent figures but during the 1990's an average of 770 convictions were overturned a year an a further 3500 quashed per year.

suggests they dont know as much as you think <ok>

I think it's still better left to the legal system than a barrack room myself.

As it stands, he's an unrepentant rapist.

I've never claimed to know anything. I leave that to the legal experts on here.

This case has bothered me since the time of his conviction, it never sounded right to me and still doesn't.

That's merely my subjective opinion though and yes as it stands he is exactly what you say he is in the eyes of the law.

I was reading recently, that in the US, they think at least 300 innocent people have been executed by the state since the 70's.

That's more than a little worrying, at least it is if you get nicked for murdering someone in America.

Thought this was a good statement from an Oldham sponsor
However, another Oldham sponsor, Web Applications UK, said it would continue to support the club irrespective of its decision over Evans.
The company's chief executive, Craig Dean, said he believed it would be "unethical" to seek to influence the situation in either direction.

"To deprive a human being of the right to work in their chosen profession should be a decision taken by a judicial system that dispassionately balances the rights of the individual against that of the society as a whole," he said in a statement.

"There are cases where such rights should be restricted for the good of the whole, but it is not a decision that should be made by an IT company.

"Whether Oldham Athletic choose to employ Ched Evans is a decision for the manager and board of directors of the club. We will not interfere with that decision."

They sound like they deal more in fences or splinter removal cream than IT.

Not at all and why is it ? Evans should be spending his time trying to clear his name.

I would suggest that Evans also has more money than the need for benefits.

He also has a rich father-in-law to be who is funding the appeal. One thing Evans wont be short of is wonga.

Over 45000 on the petition for Oldham not to sign Ched Evans. Oldham last home attendance... 4782

Don't know why these people are so obsessed with Evans never playing football again, rather than just the team they support.

I can understand your viewpoint on the matter, but I find that a cynical and unnecessary remark.

I think you mean the states not the state. Our federal govt has hardly any deathrow inmates and I doubt they have even executed a couple dozen people as the federal govt can only execute those that have committed federal murders (like the OK city bombing which killed federal employees.)

Estimates range but it is thought that about 20% of our current death row inmates are innocent. It was clearly much higher in the past before DNA and due to all white juries in the south (most deathrow inmates are black). The death penalty is going away slowly here, Cali has a huge deathrow population but it's been years since anyone was executed and a Supreme Court ruling last year basically made it unconstitutional in its current form. There are still plenty of states that it still happens in but the total number is falling.

A huge % of our general prison population is innocent of the crime they were charged with (not innocent in general just innocent of what they were convicted of). It is mainly due to pour representation of people who can not afford to pay for private legal council as well as overzealous prosecutors which offer plea deals to people who are probably innocent to get small sentences in lue of the possibility of the person being convicted and going to jail for decades.

He was convicted of rape, and until such a time that the conviction is overturned, he should not be afforded the choice of a profession whose rewards are beyond what most people could achieve.

How happy would you be to see him walk straight back into a 10-15K a week salary if the woman in question was your younger sister?

He might get £400 a week at Oldham if he is very lucky. Their best players might scrape £40/50,000 a year.

While I understand where your coming from its a dangerous road to go down, where do you draw the line? What job can he have? How much is he allowed to earn?

No job and no pay. I propose he spends his life on the dole so that we, the tax payers can pay for him.

I think thats what he and several others would like. They would then moan, perhaps start a petition that the tax payers are supporting a convicted rapist.
