Just got back from hospital, visiting our new grandson born today. Missed the first half of the France game.
congratulations to your family ron! As for france, they played well but were also aided by the fact that Honduras were woeful! they should easily make it out of the group though, and thanks to a kind draw are looking at the quarter finals at least
Thanks Jose. Yes, France had an easy passage, as did Germany. One of the Honduras players was a nasty piece of work. While the French player was on the ground the H player stamped on his left leg and then stamped on the other one. How he wasn't red carded there and then I don't know. The French player retaliated with a bit of a kick and I think they both got yellows. But that stamping looked horrific to me. As for Germany, the game was finished when the German player went down as if poleaxed and the Portuguese player lost it and got sent off. Although the game was as good as dead, Portugal should have had a penalty but the ref saw differently. I'm beginning to think that before having a bet on this World Cup it would pay to get to know the refs because they are having a big say in some of these vital matches.
Germany made light work of Portugal, helped by pepe losing his head and Ronaldo having one of the worst games I can recall in a long time! Regarding the referees I wonder if the portugese reputation went before them in this case, as there are a lot of divers in their team! Referees should not be a factor really but we so often know that they are, you can find out who the referee for each game is here http://footballrefereeing.blogspot.de/search/label/World Cup Referee Appointments interestingly still nothing for howard webb....
Anyone watching Wombles v Liverpool? Danny Bullman, who played for Wycombe against Liverpool in the FA Cup semi final, plays tonight
