I was making what I thought was a valid point based upon what he said in the article (yes I did read it).

As I said, the guy who wrote that rubbish (Chas Newkey-Burden) is full of himself and the article is riddled with flaws. He's having a go at the westerners' treatment of animals and saying animals here are treated just as badly as animals in the far east, that's utter nonsense. I also note he left Halal meat out of his argument, one can but wonder why.

Kind of explains a lot of your behaviour on here, you have serious reading issues.

That article is discussing the treatment of animals, along with different views of which animals are ok to treat like **** and which aren't. It doesn't matter if you guess that animals here are treated 'better' than the ones in South Korea (based on absolutely no proof), they're still treated like ****. What has Halal meat got to do with it? From my point of view, and the view of the author, treating any animals badly is cruel.

What 'flaws' is the article 'riddled' with, please expand <ok>

I wouldn’t know. You’d know more about anything dev than I would with all the time you spend talking to him.

Have you ever visited an abattoir in the UK?

I can assure you, as horrible as it is, sheep, pigs and cows are not slaughtered whilst conscious, there may be rare occasions where some rogue slaughterman does kill an animal without first putting it to sleep beforehand, but these are the exception rather than the rule, same as animal cruelty because we have a rigorous system which prevents such wholesale abuse.

Mr Newkey-Burden seems to think dogs in Korea are treated in the same manner as our livestock in the UK. That is clearly untrue, so if he truly believes it then he is more to be pitied than scorned.

I mentioned Halal meat for obvious reasons, Mr Newkey-Burden has avoided any mention of Halal butchery for those very same reasons I suspect. It's easier easier to have a rant at the evil west (Which is what his article is) than crtiicise Johnny Foreigner and his seemingly barbaric ways.

In essence we kill animals for food just like the Koreans et al, but we don't "treat them like ****".

While it may be true that Britain has higher standards of agricultural welfare than some other places that's only relevant if you only eat meat that's harvested from animals farmed in the UK. Although a lot of the 'fresh' meat you buy in supermarkets (and most butchers) is British-raised a lot of the meat that goes into sliced meat packages, ready meals etc. is not.

In fact, as we saw a few years ago, some of the meat that goes into ready meals isn't even what it claims to be (horse, for example). And a lot of that meat comes from countries with some very dubious agricultural standards (countries such as Thailand, Romania, Egypt, even the USA).

Given that a lot of the meat consumption in Britain is in the form of pre-packaged sliced meat, ready meals, takeaways etc. it's difficult to gauge just how many animals suffer cruel conditions and slaughter before reaching your table.

    Just something to think about.

I'm only talking about animal welfare here, same as Mr Newkey-Burden, he's the one comparing the UK to Korea.

Yes, being vegan does make me a better person – and, deep down, I think you know it
    CHAS NEWKEY-BURDEN

People call vegans judgmental, but why shouldn't we judge you if you are engaged in what we see as mass murder?
