You might need a Crane Frenchie! Hope you get it out ok though. I love cranes.. On my list.. I once visited a winter roosting colony of rare black necked cranes in a remote valley in Himalayan Bhutan.. Was a real privilege... And watching the pairs fly in to roost and doing a spectacular dance as each couple landed has proven to be unforgettable... Have a good day folks...
Morning all. The sun is trying to break through some light cloud, but it is dry and the very strong wind that returned last night has disappeared. After a lot of huffing and puffing with the aid of my Dutch friend with his heavy Volvo, the car was brought out of the bog it was stuck in. It wasn't as easy as it might have been because he didn't think that the ground was solid enough to pull it straight out and we didn't want to have two cars stuck there. Now I need to get and clean it up as it is covered in thick mud. Enjoy your day whatever you must do.
As I said this morning we had very strong winds yesterday afternoon and evening. Today I went past one of the garden centres in town that was in a right old state. The main building was like a large circus tent, with a canvas roof. At 4.30 pm yesterday the wind went in through one of the doors and ripped the roof to shreds. It didn't just fall but flapped around in the wind, and the fire brigade had to pull it down as there was a danger that it could take off and damage adjacent houses. It has been a disaster for the garden centre who were well stocked with plants and flowers prepared for Valentine's Day. I hope it can recover as it grows many plants from seed locally, and is useful to obtain just a few plants that you don't have room to grow them yourself.
Morning all. A lovely still, dry, warm and sunny day here. Glad I am not travelling to the UK via my normal evening ferry as it has been cancelled already due to the impending storms. I look at the Oxfordshire flood plains now covered with concrete and think some of the towns never used see the destruction that happens now. Surely you put the drainage infrastructure in place before you are allowed to divert the natural run-offs of water seems like a common sense idea, but the drive to create even more warehouse space always seems to come first. There have always been floods in towns and villages not caused by this, but by the geography of the land, but when you see only half built flood protection schemes you do have to wonder about priorities. Have a good safe day everyone.
Afternoon all... Fairly quiet here.. So far. This morning have learned how to cook, chapati, well relearned as gave up on trying to roll round ones thirty years back, plain snd spiced puri, plain and stuffed paratha, and batura.... Feeling very chilled now and off to see movie Parasite...
Lovely fresh cauliflowers just arrived from Brittany, so there will be cauliflower cheese this evening with some French bread. I have something red to add a little colour to the meal.
Well played those Canaries. Just how you are where you are seems daft. Well organised in defence, you only needed to have taken one of those chances to have got something out of the game.
Morning all. A clear blue sky and a temperature of 18°C expected this afternoon. Monthly day out for dinner at our favourite restaurant, and as we were asked to pre-choose I reckon they could be busy again. They will do a veggie menu if you ask them in advance and are very good at providing alternatives for those who might have an allergy to something. My thoughts are with those who could be suffering from flooding for the second weekend in a row. I used to use a pub in Banbury that had a cellar that flooded, and had a pump installed that came on when the water level reached a certain height. They had big problems when the pump failed and water started to rise through the floorboards. Have a good day and stay safe and dry.
Morning all.. West Yorkshire not under water this morning. So far. Less rain.. All depends on the volume. . We went to see parasite last night and found it very challenging viewing.. But loved it! Meanwhile I later cooked dinner without my reading glasses on and put three times the red chilli in... Mme was NOT amused..
