I'm sure police forces from all European countries work in similar ways. Despite the previous cuts in police numbers in the UK other countries such as Spain, France and Belgium have higher levels of reported crime. I expect Boris's 20,000 new police officers will improve the UK's figures even more.

Do you not have any ability to look at what is happening in your country? It really makes no sense to say that others are worse, so everything must be fine here. You have had ten years of police cuts, and people are really upset at what they see as problems because of it. Your argument to someone who has been burgled that they shouldn't worry because it is worse in Spain is total nonsense to that person. If you had any concern for that person you wouldn't be telling them to forget it as it is worse elsewhere, you should be telling them that the government got it wrong. As for the extra officers I will believe it when I see Johnson lay down in his ditch.

Hasn’t dear Boris (with a name like that and it’s Labour who get investigated by MI5!) announced 20000 new police officers. When he says ‘new’ of course, he means ‘new’ as in 20000 of the 21000 his party cut. Bit like the ‘new’ nurses. <doh>

I know it’s semantics, but didn’t he mean ‘return to his gutter’?

Of course there is a crime problem in every country and more could, and should, be done to prevent and solve crimes. It is however important to go by the international statistics. On every graph I have seen France is much worse than the UK and is always near the top of the crime charts. Can you please explain why?

You just don't get it do you SH. It is of no interest to a person who has had a breakin that in the next town, county or country, there have been more. Why does England and Wales have four times more crime than Scotland or Northern Ireland? Ask the person who has just had some of their property stolen, and they will say what has that got to do with me. I think you will find that in most case they will say it is because of the cuts made to the police over the past ten years. Get a spate of thefts around Berko as Yorkie has seen, and you will be thinking differently.

Why is France one of the worst countries in Europe for crime?

Morning all. Lovely sunshine, but it hasn't warmed up a lot yet. Yesterday I went past one of the gardens that I use as a guide as when it is time to be doing things, as that garden has some of the best vegetables you will see growing anywhere. The elderly gent who must be well into his eighties was digging over the last bit of ground and it looked very neat and tidy. I think that today will have to be the start of my catch up period, and get some areas covered to warm the soil up a bit. I need to get busy, which is good for the waistline anyway. Enjoy your day, and I hope you can get outside to do things. <ok>

You blame police cuts for crime in England, you must also have a reason why France seems to be always in the top two in Europe for crime. As this is your adopted country I would have thought you would take some interest in these appalling statistics?

It must have been colder than I thought overnight as my wheelbarrow down the field had collected rainwater which had frozen. Still it has now reached 12°C and the sun feels warm. Spring is just around the corner.:emoticon-0157-sun:

Some of us have other things to do than sit around and try to make trouble. If I thought you were in the slightest bit interested I could give you a lengthy answer, but seeing as you cannot discuss the situation in Leeds, England, there is little point in continuing.

I'm really interested in why France practically remained the worst place for crime in Europe. Boris is addressing UK crime with 20,000 more police officers and extra funding.

What is France doing to address its horrendous crime problem?

That is a perfectly reasonable request, I'm interested in your take on the high crime rate in France as you live there.
